"That was about as ugly a quarterback matchup as you’ll see in high-level college football. Hornibrook simply couldn’t hit any sort of receiver open down the field. He went 2-15 on passes targeted 10+ yards down the field and Hornibrook’s adjusted completion percentage of 50 was among the worst marks in college football this week."

Don't understand how darboh is basically only up 1 point on grant perry?? You'd think he'd be way higher than that? Perry couldn't have had more than 2 receptions

I have said it before, but I think Darboh has to improve quite a bit in not allowing defenders to push him off his routes, and adjusting to and fighting for the ball on more difficult catches.

He did make a nice play on the TD by beating the defender off the snap and then "getting on top of him", so the defender had no angle and could only trail, and the throw made the catch pretty easy.

We will know more about Ohio State when they play at Wisconsin. They haven't played a team with a top-tier defense -- OU is okay, but not as good as the Badgers at home with a bye week.

I'm not saying Michigan will shut Ohio State down entirely like they did Wisconsin, but I am saying that we don't have a clear idea of how far along Speight will need to be to beat them.

One thing is certain, though -- Speight can't repeat the kind of mistake he made when he was intercepted. He will learn from that and sooner or later he will stop throwing into multiple coverage around Butt. His errors are mental -- timing, decisions, and maybe also a bit of frustration. It was a tough game -- losing his LT and then the penalties, game closer than it should have been, and so on. The experience will make him stronger.

This was a test. Speight passed, and next time he'll be better prepared. You can even argue that he improved during the game -- the TD to Darboh being the evidence -- Speight made a good decision there -- if Harbaugh can be believed, Butt was the primary target on that play.

OSU will have better athletes, and those "almost interceptions" against Wisconsin WILL BE interceptions against OSU if they continue.

What I liked best about this Wisky game from the M staff was the balance of ply calls they used; early passes to open up the run, etc.

Other than allowing W to time snap counts it really helped to keep W guessing.

Personally, I'm not as worried about Ohio State's offense.  Its very good, but we have a very good defense.  So strength vs. strength.  The part makes me really question how we beat them is how our offense matches up with their defense.  We can't run the ball and will have to throw into a very opportunistic secondary on the road in a hostile environment.  Given Speight accuracy issues, that seems like a super tall task at the moment.  He had at least three passes that should have been picked off against Wisconsin.

We can probably hold Ohio State's offense to below 24-28 points...but can our offense score more than that?  Gonna need some pick-6s and things like that to go our way.

I don't see Michigan not beating any of the teams until OSU.

When it comes to OSU, the Michigan offense is going to have to play great to win.  Their defense is easily as good as ours, so the difference will be which offense can step up. Michigan's offense is going to have to keep improving to beat OSU this year. If they played right now, I don't think it is a win.  There is a lot of weeks in the season to get there though.  No matter what, it will be a very tough game.

The QB competition will be vrey tough next year.  Speight will have the lead, but I am sure O'korn still wants his day, and Peters will be wanting to get his time as well.  For now, it looks like Speight is the man to get it done.

Granted, level of competition and all of that, but Ohio State looks like they have a hell of a secondary.  And given Michigan's inability to run the ball against non-walkon defenses, I just don't see how (as of this moment) we score enough against Ohio State to win.

Hoping Speight has a late season light bulb lighting miracle like Rudock did, but...that's expecting an awful lot.

Fn THANK YOU! He's our best option (clearly, based on merit) but he's not even close to scratching what he could be. He's started 5 games. Everyone needs to quit acting like he's already amazing or already terrible and will never get better. In the middle of that is logic and it's also where the truth is. He's a one read dear in headlights right now and that's kind of expected. It's ok to admit.

Oh, and the opposite believe 5 games started = what he'll always be (ha). He's learning, he's our best option but he absolutely could not win us a game against osu right now. It's ok to admit the obvious and not be an extremist to either side.

I don't know that we can assume the same trajectory for Speight. Rudock was a fifth year senior that came in during fall camp. His issue was learning the system, not learning how to be a starting college QB. On the other hand, Speight is a first year starter, but has a lot of time in the system (relatively). He's still developing the skills of an experienced QB, not just the playbook. It's probably going to take him a bit longer to develop.

I still think we can expect to see a great deal of improvement from Speight.  The fact that he's only a RS sophomore in his first year starting makes me think that the ceiling is higher for him than it was for Rudock.  I mean, I hate to use MSU as an example, but look at Connor Cook.  In 2013 he was a RS sophomore and he went from merely a game manager relying primarily on his defense and running game at the beginning of the year, to a guy who was actually winning games against Ohio State and Stanford.  And he didn't have Harbaugh coaching him.  I think Speight will be a much better QB by the time the OSU game rolls around, and it was good for him to win a game like this against an elite defense at this point in the season.
