Peyton Manning = Good Dude

Submitted by Black Socks on

I saw this on another message board and thought you would like it as well.  As hard as I was rooting for Brady yesterday Peyton won me over a bit with this letter.  He met Jason Carr on his official visit to Michigan.

Both Manning brothers are good people.  After Kristina, both Peyton and Eli bought significant amounts of food and relief equipment for New Orleans, and loaded and unloaded the planes that carried the relief materials.  Peyton has a children's hospital named after him in Indy. Yeah, he's one good dude

EDIT:

I see this was brought up below also.  anyways, lots of rumors of infedelity floated around Indianapolis as well.  Unverified Voracity, and what have you

I have a buddy who flies for NetJets and he flew the Manning brothers around one day and said they were funny and engaging, not the typical stars you may expect who fly around I private airplanes. And they acted like real brothers, making fun of each other and cutting up a lot. I've been a Manning fan ever since.

We all make mistakes.  It's easy to not be defined by the worst things you do when you aren't in the spotlight.  While I am a Brady guy, I'm going to give Peyt the benefit of the doubt.  I don't think he's the same person or that anyone knows the details (thankfully) surrounding the incident.  It's human nature to protect our own perception and the "victim" gets 300k to sop up her tears with.  We should all be so unfortunate.

Get you your facts right. No, she didn't win the case. UT settled. And she had 32 other allegations of sexual harassment she brought against people not named Peyton Manning. I can't find the "witness who testified" either - it does t appear it went to trial so not sure how there is a witness testifying... A report on the settlement from when it occurred: http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/1997/08/20/oth_213271.shtml#.VqcFp… Also, not sure how it was "swept under the rug" - Google "Peyton Manning mooning" and there's a ton of articles about it, including some from about 17 years after it happened. I'm not going to claim to know what happened or jump to conclusions, but please if articulating facts actually have the correct information.

While at Tennessee, Manning was involved in an incident where he reportedly dropped his pants and pressed his undercarriage up against the face of a female trainer who was examining him.  Manning claims it was accidental and speaks poorly of the woman in some biography, but both Tennessee and Manning have paid her a ton of money to keep quiet.

Doesn't seem likely we'll ever know what really happened.

I planned to reluctantly root for the Panthers just because of Manning, or really just all of the Manning hype and Brady hate.  Fortunately there is plenty of time to input this new information for processing in my own logic-less main frame.

Never been a Peyton hater - he seems down to earth for a multi bazillionaire, hasnt ditched his wife like so many do once they get the money and fame, is genuinely funny or at least has a talent for saying funny things written by the SNL staff, and loses to Tom Brady a lot.  I do hope he goes out after this year so as to not hurt his legacy that much more late like Favre did.

This was obviously forever ago, but people outside of Indiana might not know about it.

http://www.wthr.com/story/7031093/childrens-hospital-to-be-named-after-…

"As for Manning's donation, a hospital source said to look in the neighborhood of $50 million."

All talk is that he is still actively involved with the children's hospital today, including personal calls to individual patients, despite his new team.

I never minded Payton Manning.  He gets associated with what Fulmer did to us for the split NC, but he had nothing to do with that.

I never thought Manning was anything but a good guy. Just a bit annoying, maybe a faux pas here or there, an inability to say no to seven-figure checks, and an abiding love of football which can annoy the people around him. Makes him a lot like the rest of us, right? I would do Papa Johns commercials for millions of dollars. And they'd be SUPER annoying.

For some reason Manning seems to be considered the better QB.  I don't see it.  No one has done more with less around him than Brady.

That being said, Manning seems like a really good guy.  I root against him only because I think Brady is better.  I wanted Cam and the Panthers to roll Manning in the SB, after reading that letter and thinking over, maybe not.

I like the Nationwide ads and the Pap Johns ads.  I thought the ones with him and Eli were funny.  I don't know, I guess he's okay, but Woodson was better!  GO BLUE!!!

Always liked Peyton.  Great player, humble, great teammate and seemingly good all around guy.  His commercials at usually pretty funny too, at least by the low standard given by other examples of "jock humor".

Settled out of court by UT, Peyton later trashed her in his book whereupon she sued him for defamation and won leading to an additional settlement with him, after which he violated a court order and defamed her again on ESPN leading to his being held in contempt of court and an additional financial settlement with her.

Yeah, Peyton's a great guy when it comes to feeling sorry for the loss of a young child, but not when it comes to respecting a woman and her body, and the legal definitions of sexual assault and court orders. Great guy.

Has littlle or nothing to do with guilt or innocence. Heck, even a criminal trial with a much higher standard of evidence often sends an innocent man to prison in sexual offense cases. And none of us were there when the alleged incident took place. So I won't take part in your self-righteous lynch mob.

Well there was a witness there, a fellow athlete who saw him do it. So it happened, and he chalked it up to something like a misunderstanding or a joke. His apparent actions after that toward her lead me to believe he's not as nice as he portrays. Doesn't help when you have legions of enablers and jock-riders defending you at every turn. He basically gets the opposite of the Brady treatment at all times, always assumed impossible he could do anything wrong because well he just seems like a nice guy!
