Petition to fire Al Borges

Submitted by Mturner on

Al Borges is continually bringing us down with bad play calling. He does not put our players in the postion to succeed and it is killing us in our big games. Couldn't score a touchdown against ND, MSU, Nebraska, and the second half aginst OSU. He continually tries to make our players do what they can't do. Running it up the gut with Vinny Smith, or trying to make denard a pro style passer. I know our players don't execute at times, and have turnovers, but he has a lot of the blame on him becuase he is not helping them at all with playing to their skills.

I'm worried what needs to be done never will becuase Borges's ineptitude is covered up by weaker big 10 teams and soft non conference oponents inflating our record.

Apparently, to some posters, the only person smart enough to assess Al Borges and the "progression" he has made with this offense is a former pizza CEO.  Since you are not a former pizza CEO, your mention of our regression in all relevant offensive areas over the past two years is meaningless.  Your discussion of Al Borges' failures over the past decade plus is superfluous.  It is affront to the tradition of this great program that you might point out we are now 93rd in the country in first downs, and 67th in total offense.  It strains credulity to legitimately query why it always seems that Mattison is able to get so much out of players and positions we have concerns about pre-season, while the offense shows new problem areas (which should be attributed to talent, despite being in the program for years).  In other words, please stop thinking -- the pizza guy has this covered.

P.S.  Please change excellerate to accelerate, and I will sign.

Is there anything more embarrassing than fans who start "fire" petitions after losses? Actually, there is one thing more embarrassing: fans who think such petitions will actually work.

IF (and I'm just saying IF) Borges were to be fired (I have no real oppinion on the matter) who would be wanted as an O coordinator? Would we want a big school or smaller school? Big name, or lesser known name?

My vote would be for someone like Tony Franklin of Lousiana Tech.

Over reaction city!! Fire our OC. That really shows our recruits our confidence and patience with our coaching staff. If he gets that 4th down and we end up winning the game everyone would be praising him. The pass plays were working and I believe he wanted to see if it opened up the run but it didn't. I agree I would have QB sneeked it or had an audible to a sneak on one of our 3rd and 1's, it was open and Gardner is big. Could we have won YES could it have been worse YES.   BAMA beat us down, We gave ND the game with turnover/give aways. Denard goes down in Nebraska.  AL did a great job with Gardner in just a few weeks. Imagine if Miller was our for OSU today. Do you think we only win by 5? I dont!

We couldn't run without DENARD. We couldn't pass with him. We could line him up as a RB some, but you see him try to block? We were up shit creek the second we couldn't block the interior a lick. Everyone needs to grow the fuck up.

Are you fucking kidding me? Why did we not have Devin and Denard in at the same time. Every time Denard was in we ran the ball (obv) and when Devin was in we threw or ran up the middle. Why couldn't we use Denard as a decoy when Devin was at QB? What the fuck is wrong with you people? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!

When Denard was at RB the pass protection was broken. He's only been repping at the position for a couple of weeks and he's never played it, or any other position requiring him to block. There's no reason to expect him to be good at it, and he isn't.

news. Every loss the last two years is a direct reesult of playcalling. Alabama is the only game this may not be true, but I will argue that if we use Denard differently that score is closer. People will point to turovers as the reason for todays loss, but two of the last three turnovers do not happen with diffferent playcalling. I have been calling for Al's job for two years now.

I think with Denard leaving Borges will finally be able to run the offense he wants without worrying about accommodating one specific player. I think we'll be fine going forward. If things don't get better in 2013 then by all means fire him.

Borges isn't going anywhere.  Chillax bro.  He made some awful playcalls, but he also made some pretty good ones.  The OL shoulders a lot of the offensive ineptitude as well, not giving Gardner adequate protection, and not opening up any holes.

This petition stuff is silly, get over it.

Anyone know where I can get a pitchfork and a torch?  I don't want to miss out on the fun.

I've learned a lot on the internet today, mostly that Al Borges is a fat stupid head.

this should just prove to you michigan pundits that brady hoke was the wrong coach for michigan. Jim harbaugh should of been hired. Hoke will NEVER win a bt champ. as well as a nat'l champ. Urban Meyer will beat mich. for the next ungodly yrs (like tress did) and after 3 yrs. of this crap, you people will be cryin sayin why didnt we hire a GOOD coach and waste 3 yrs with this piece of s__t?

I'm sorry, I'm a mich fan too..but when we had a chance to hire somebody who has class and knows how to WIN the games that count, and we don't, it just proves to me that dave brandon and the regents are just a bunch of cheap b___ds who would rather spend 10 mill on a advertising sign outside of michigan stadium to promote upcoming events that no one cares about, than spend that same money on a coach that WILL win bt champ. nat' champ. and BEAT OHIO!!

When brady has another 8-4 season next yr. and we miss out on another bt  champ. lose to ohio and a nat'l champ. maybe, jut maybe some of you fans will wake up and reaize that a misake was made.  But, hell, after carr won his nat'l champ. in '97, mich gave him another 10 yrs. and he won what? no more nat'l champ. i think one or two bt champ. and went 4-6 against ohio...are we gonna wait that long to see what brady hoke can do? God, I hope not..I'd be in a mental hosp. by then...I rest my case...

You're a moron and you probably just won the Tears of Unfathomable Sadness for the week. To respond to what you said, you do realize that Hoke is finishing up year 2 right? That his first full recruiting class are all freshmen right now? Pop a Prozac and relax for a couple years - this program is still under construction.

That I can't even play my 3 sting guitar and I crushed my box of half smoken cigs.

It wouldn't be surprised if Al Borges purposely tanked the play calling because a bunch of bucknuts kidnapped his beloved Chinese Crested dog and threatened to eat it if he didn't make sure UM lost.

You sit the most explosive player on your team for the entire fourth quarter of the biggest game of the season!  You make the untried freshman Bellomy your back-up quarterback and leave him in to totally meltdown while experienced junior QB Devin Gardner plays wide receiver!  You try to make Denard Robinson a pure pocket passer against Notre Dame and he throws 5 interceptions!  You try to run between the tackles repeatedly thorughout the second half against OSU even though you are getting nowhere!  What makes anyone thing that this idiot is going to be any better next year!!  Three losses in games we should have won and next year he can play his players!  Who Bellomy at QB?  Fire this idiot before he makes our offense look like Rich Rod's defenses!!!

How about a petition to ABC to never EVER let Chris Shhhpielman be an analyst for this game again. His little chuckle when the game was in hand at the end was an extra kick to my groin. I really wanted to smash those rose-colored glasses he was wearing!!

Is it time to resurrect this post?  Consider how prescient some of these folks were:

"Everyone is angry now, but just wait until next year when Borges finally gets to unleash all the Rawls halfback dives he wants behind an all sophmore o line."

That was a year ago.

Ha Ha Ha this is crazy. We've got Borges being fired even though we have a young O-line that shouldn't be starting for 2 more seasons if all was going as it should. Play calling could improve but wow, I think it is premature to call for firing.

Also, Green isn't going to do anything better than Fitz with this blocking - not a chance.  Fitz is a good back but his talents cannot shine if the line can't even get up past the line of scrimmage. Line play is the solution.  It has to improve and when it does everything else will improve.
