Personal Story to Verify Harbaugh to Michigan

Submitted by UMClassOf2018 on

I had a little encounter today that, to me, says Harbaugh to Michigan is happening.

So, I am from Youngstown, OH. This morning, I went to my gym for a little early morning workout, and another member of my gym is the father of Chris Durkin (the QB who was committed to MSU, flipped to VT, is a freshman there now). This is significant because they are close cousins with D.J. Durkin. I know Chris' father a little bit (not saying his name for privacy reasons), and saw him there this morning. We were talking a little bit, and asked about my freshman year at Michigan. It then turned into a conversation about Michigan football, and he said he would starting rooting for Michigan football next season (after giving me shit for wearing Michigan shirts in the past). I asked why, and he said he has a cousin who would be coaching there next season, and when I asked if it was D.J. Durkin, he said it was.

Conversation stopped there, but basically we can infer from this that Harbuagh is coming, and D.J. Durkin knows it and will be joining him.

I have no reason not to believe him at this point.

Also the edge is reporting rumblings from the ticket office expecting full staff this upcoming week in prep for an anticipation of some sorts.

Yeah, it's on like Donkey Kong. We have Harbaugh

I really don't see that as much of a risk. Harbaugh is worth a ton to Michigan because he's probably the only rock star coach we have a legitimate chance of hiring. But an NFL franchise doesn't have to pay $8+ million to get a top coach. Why would the Raiders offer Harbaugh $10-12 million when there are plenty of other good candidates they could sign for half that?

The Raiders are perhaps the worst franchise in all of professional sports from top to bottom. The Stadium is a dump, Al Davis spent decades ruining the organization and frankly, Oakland sucks as a tax revenue base for business. The notion of dropping $10-$12M is almost laughable in light of the 'Moneyball' (aka, PateiotWay) model more pervasive these days. Oakland is using the media (or trying to) to try to tell the world of all available head coaches that they're 'serious' about change. Look at who they have hired since Gruden. Oakland wants the world to think they're in the running for Harbaugh in part of a reclamation of it's image as a wasteland for both players and coaches since the late-80's.

Never say never, and all that... but that's A LOT of scratch for Mark Davis to cough up, no suitable stadium or known permanent address.

I'd almost say if that happens the Shield had to kick in from a secret slush fund to keep a successful coach from bolting to college. Because - no one DOES THAT!!!

Maybe it's the English degree talking or looking at the OP like you read the Chairman of the Fed, but if this person said his cousin "would" be the DC all it really means is that ... If Harbaugh to MICHIGAN then Durkin as DC If he said he WILL be the DC at MICHIGAN then it's just another anecdotal story about what will happen IF Harbaugh to MICHIGAN. I think many feel there is already a lot of circumstantial evidence suggesting that IF Harbaugh to MICHIGAN, then Durkin 'would' be his DC. Now I feel I should go to the gym, though.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Harbaugh at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

All of these "personal stories", reprts, etc... This has been & continues to be the longest month EVER. I cannot wait until this is settled, one way or the other. I hope it ends the way we all would like!

I work at a gym and have had probably 3 to 5 clients tell me they know someone who tells them Harbaugh to Michigan is happening.  Taken alone I wouldn't really put much stock in any of them, but together, along with all of the other info out there... I have begun to Baughlieve.

Can't wait for Monday!
