The Perfect Michigan Football Day--A Report of Fun

Submitted by Happyshooter on
We rolled into the Golf Course tail gate line at 7:20 (running way early because traffic was so light), number two in the gate at 8:03. The keg was cracked soon after, along with the sun getting higher. Great brat kabobs. We did miss the victory walk, in favor of more beer. Kick-off was great, row 4 endzone seats. Student section across the way was maybe 3/4 full at kickoff, and maybe 2/3 left at the half. Those that were there were still yelling. We got to see the real student fans...cool. Tate looked good for his set, the fact he went right out after had me a little concerned. Being right down that close, with the sun still shining, made me happy again. I had no idea Delaware State was a black school. I just didn't know, and all I had looked at was the line for the game. Their band also looked really bummed the whole first half (even before the last three Michigan TDs). It was cool to see how formal and dressed up their band was. They looked as good as a town 1920s marching band in the movies, and their flag girls were great fun to watch. Michigan's cheerleaders and dancers were okay, but didn't bring their A game and were outclassed. Great fun to watch both, anyway. Robinson looked pretty good. For a full contact practice he was fairly good at looking for open men, and his cross body toss in the second quarter in the red zone was what I hope he can work his way up to in a real game over the next two years. Sheridan looked really really good. I think the difference is that Delaware was taking 5 seconds to get through the Michigan O line, and that gave him a chance to play the football he is great at. If Michigan had stuck with QB pocket style football he would have been one of the greats. The path not taken... Post game tail gating was also great, once the keg was getting low we men wandered around saying hi to folks and playing some bag toss and ladder. Post game we decided to play more adult but still in the U area, so instead of our usual mix of Doms and Charlies and Ashleys, we went to Pizza House. That brought back memories. Back when I was in grad school we used to order that maybe twice a month, and we went there every month or so to sit down. The expanded place looks great. Oddly, two different sets of couples (not in our group) were screwing in the bathrooms. The first set was in the men's room stall and were hogging it while I was waiting which stunk because there is only one stall in the 2nd floor men's room--they ended up being seated right behind us. The second set was in the woman's room and my wife and her friend were coming in as they left. I remember that stuff going on in Rick's and Scorekeepers...but not in a halfway family place while the sun is still up. Must be a new campus fad. We capped things off with quiet drinks and a good night's sleep. Even though this wasn't a ...real...I guess... game, it was great football and a great time on the perfect fall day. Hopefully Tate can heal some more and Robinson has learned some more lessons about throwing under some contact pressure. Every Michigan Football day should be just like this.

He was somewhat decent against an FCS team in an absolute blowout. Glad you had fun though.

What was in that keg???? Remember this was DSU's defense not OSU's Sheridan's QB rank is last out of the four QB's that have thrown passes for Michigan this year. The God's were smiling on him that Jack Kennedy didn't get a completion. Sheridan looks good in a headset holding a clip board. I truly believe he'll make a very good coach.

OSU got smacked down AND ND, despite being at home and all the home cookin' USC still beat Jimmah. Had NW taken care of business, it have been the PERFECT day. Still great though. I aptried WAY TOO HARD last night. Captain Morgan and I spent too much time together and I'm STILL feeling the effects at 5 p.m. I was finally able to eat at 3:30 today. Yes, it was a great day and night.

First time back for a game this year. Full walk around town and campus. Very impressed with the addition to the Art Museum (across from Union) B-School looks great too. Spent Sunday AM doing some work on my laptop in the reading room at the Law Quad - the place is spectacular and a real treasure for the University (hope recruits get to see it when they visit). Caught a concert at the The Ark on Saturday night and had a "Who's Greenberg Anyway?" at Zingerman's before heading to the airport. All in all it reminded me why it is so great to be a Michigan Wolverine. PS - Forgot to mention that I saw the ex-Michigan cheerleader (blond) that used to get lots of camera time on televised games and Devin Gardener.....not sure who I was happier to see.
