Peppers named team MVP at banquet, Newsome takes home 2 awards

Two new awards were established this year.

Scout Team Player of the Year Award
Anthony Dalimonte, DB, Senior

 

Most Improved Player Award
Wilton Speight, QB, RS Sophomore

 

As for the other awards-

Hugh R. Rader Memorial Award

The award was established in 1982 to perpetuate the fond memory of dedicated alumnus Hugh Rader. It is awarded to the "Best Lineman" as selected each year by his coaches. Hugh was a past president of "The Club," a past member of the Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics, a past Director of the Alumni Association, a Trustee of the Scholarship Fund, and member of the vital Transportation Committee. He was honored in 1979 when he was selected as one of Michigan's "Greatest Fans" by the Football Committee. His consecutive home and away streak of 350 ended in 1980 when he missed the Ohio State game in Columbus. Hugh also received the rare distinction of being named an Honorary 'M' Club member.

 


 

Richard Katcher Award 

Established in 1982, the Richard Katcher Award is given to the most outstanding defensive lineman or outside linebacker at the conclusion of each football season.

 



Roger Zatkoff Award 

The Roger Zatkoff Award was established in 1991 to be given to the outstanding linebacker at the conclusion of each football season. The award is named for Zatkoff, a three-year Michigan football letterwinner from the early 1950s.


 

 

Robert P. Ufer Bequest
         

This award is presented on behalf of Bob Ufer, the Voice of Meechigan football for 37 years. In fond memory of  Bob, this scholarship is awarded to the senior football player who demonstrates the most enthusiasm and love for U-M.

 

 

Dr. Arthur D. Robinson Scholarship Award

The death of Dr. Arthur D. Robinson in 1966 stirred his many friends to contribute to a fund which annually rewards the leading senior-scholar on the University of Michigan football team. Dr. Robinson served the U of M Club of Greater Detroit and his beloved University in just about every capacity imaginable. He was especially interested in "The Club's" scholarship program. Between 1947 and 1966, the leading athlete-scholar on the Michigan team was given the George Cornell "Bubbles" Patterson Award.

 

 

Bo Schembechler Award 

The Michigan Most Valuable Player Award was officially renamed the Bo Schembechler Award in 1995. It is awarded to the most valuable player on the team.
