LINK from MGoBlue:  Peppers named Big10 Freshman of the Week.

Defensive back Jabrill Peppers of the 16th-ranked University of Michigan football team earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition on Monday (Nov. 2) for his performance in Michigan's 29-26 victory over Minnesota on Saturday (Oct. 31). It marks the second such honor for Peppers this season. In Michigan's sixth win of the year, Peppers made three tackles -- two of which were solo stops -- and added a pair of pass breakups from the defensive secondary. He played 92 total snaps, including a single-game career-high seven plays on offense.

I don't know who else has won this year, but two of these already for Peppers, and the season still has four games to go. Nothing would be better than to cap the year with Peppers winning Big10 Freshman of the Week in a signature win against Ohio State.

Week One - Clayton Thorson, Northwestern (QB)

Week Two - Co-Freshman of the week Saquon Barkley (RB), Penn State; LJ Scott (RB), Michigan State

Week Three - Co-Freshman of the week Saquon Barkley (RB), Penn State; Jonathan Crawford, Indiana (S)

Week Four - Taiwan Deal, Wisconsin (RB)

Week Five - LJ Scott, Michigan State (RB)

Week Six - Co-Freshman of the week Jabrill Peppers, Michigan (S);Shannon Brooks, Minnesota (RB)

Week Seven - T.J. Edwards, Wisconsin (LB)

Week Eight - Clayton Thorson, Northwestern (QB)

Week Nine - Jabrill Peppers, Michigan (S)

All of them have some big games left, Barkley with you guys and MSU, Scott with us and Penn State and Peppers, of course, PSU and us.  Thorson has a good PSU defense left to go against and Wisconsin who has been meh.

Given that it is the conference, not the NCAA, that awards medical exemptions (medical redshirts), and it is the conference that has named Peppers Freshman of the week....

In any case, Michigan's roster names everybody by their academic year, not their year of eligibility, except for 5th year seniors.

Very good news, and I think if you were going to guess at who would win this yesterday, you might guess someone who made difference-making contributions in every phase of the game, just like, well, Jabrill Peppers. Well done indeed.

As a sidenote, Purdue QB David Blough is the Offensive Player Of The Week and Purdue CB Anthony Brown is the Defensive Player Of The Week. I think Nebraska deserves a hearty cheer for making Purdue shine.

After eight games, Jabrill Peppers currently has 408 yards from punt and kickoff returns (average of 51 yards per game.) In 12 games in 2014, Michigan had a total of 545 yards from punt and kickoff returns (average of 45.4 yards per game.) That does not include the yardage that he has gained by taking fair catches on the run on some of his "punt returns," thus giving Michigan better field position.

When you add (a) the block he made during Jehu Chesson's 96-yard touchdown return of the opening kickoff against Northwestern and (b) his participation on offense, I'd give the edge to Jabrill Peppers for team MVP so far.

That takes nothing away from the great season Jourdan Lewis is having. Based on the season to date, he might be Michigan's best chance at having a player named to the All Conference First Team.
