Peppers? Lost in the carnage.

Submitted by Yo_Blue on

With the steady stream of threads desiring to bomb the athletic department back to the stone age and the wish to go medieval on certain people, we seem to have glossed over an issue that came out of the Minnesota game.

What is going on with Jabrill Peppers?  He was not on the field for the game and when asked about it afterwards, Brady said that he was in the locker room receiving treatment.

I have heard rumors ranging from "teaching him a lesson" to "serious injury".  Desmond Howard's take from viewing a practice is that Peppers was the only player on the team who appeared to want to be great.

Does anyone have an update on his status?

I can't find it now - it's probably buried deep in their TL now, but the official Michigan Football account tweeted on Saturday about 40 minutes or so before the game that Peppers had suffered an undisclosed injury on the field in practice last week and would not be on the dress list. No word on exactly what happened since then though, at least not that I have seen. If someone has anything, do share if you can, of course.

Edit: I reread...you're stating the information/updates on him is lost in the carnage.

I'll be honest, when I first read, I thought you were implying that we were about to lose Peppers amidst all of the controversy (carnage). Like he was transferring and we just lost him. The way Roseboro was lost in all of this carnage.

I saw him at South Quad the Thursday before the game, and he was on crutches not moving around very well.

I'm no doctor or physical trainer by any means, but it looked like more than just a dinged-up boo boo kind of thing.

Seems that the "teaching him a lesson" theory was overblown... after what little has been read between the lines, it sounds like Peppers was told he couldn't play because of his injury and he was pissed and wanted to play.

I assume that any player that is told that they can't play because of a lingering injury is going to challenge that decision.

Hopefully he's healthy enough to play in his home state this weekend.

Relevant speculation history:

@umichfootball: Jabrill Peppers is receiving treatment in the locker room for an injury that occurred during practice this week.

@jlewis210: heard jabrill peppers made a sick play in practice and looked at the coaches and said "that's why you fucking start me" and they sat him

@DougAndGator971: As the dust settles post Minn, sources tell me Jabrill Peppers was not being disciplined yesterday. He was indeed injured. #d

I have a close friend that works for the team.  Peppers was on crutches all week and was never going to play.  The rumor of him in the locker room with his back to the coaches and upset is complete BS.

I can't find anything now, but a few credible people were tweeting yesterday that the whole Jabrill fiasco was just a rumor, and that he is legitimatelly injured.

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Jabrill pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

He may be injured, but I have a hard time believing he could not be on the field to support his teammates during the game.  He was receiving treatment?  Could he receive treatemtn before and after the game?  Just seems like bullshit he would be able to be oin the sidelines where any good teammate would want to be.

Might be hurt, but there is more to this.

It's surprising to me how little attention Peppers is getting in all of this.

If you ask me, if this kid is pissed about playing time, it's a function of the overblown nature of recruiting. This kid was a star before he even got here. How many freshmen get the kind of universal adoration and rounds of applause before he even played a down? If the rumblings are true about his attitude in the last month, he needs to figure out you have to tone it down.

The whole notion he was "receiving treatment in the lockerroom" during a game when he was injured in practice is absolutely farcical. Seems to me they were trying to avoid a pouty-Tate Forcier-head-wrapped-in-a-towel moment for the TV cameras.
