Peppers Hype: Harbaugh

Submitted by uofmchris on

It is no secret that Jim Harbaugh is all in on the Peppers/Heisman hype train. From a coach who's basic foundation is molded around ''The Team, The Team, The Team", I do find it interesting that Jim is not afraid to publicy state that Peppers is the best player on the field, at all times. Dont get me wrong, I love that he has the kids back, and obviously he preaches the truth, but part of me wonders if this is Harbaugh being Harbaugh. I wonder if he is angling all of this ''best player'' talk as a way to possibly get Peppers back for 1 more year after this year? Peppers is more than likely a sure fire top 10 pick, but let's say he doesnt win the Heisman... Is Peppers so competitive that he would think about coming back to be the pre-seaon Heisman leader?  I will say that if he does come back, he would no doubt be the clear cut #1 Hiesman candidate.... And he knows his coach would back him from day 1.

Is a top 10 draft choice Peppers ceiling? Or is a top 10 draft pick and Heisman winner Peppers ultimate goal? We shall see.

All of that said... BEAT BYE!

GO BLUE!!!!

is about on par with your "describe in as much detail as possible" the play that wins the game thread. I'm surprised you would take the time out to chastise a thread considering the one you posted went over like a fart in church.....

EDIT: here is the thread to which I am referring...

Tyrone Wheatley is on this staff. He is an example of a player projected as a 1st round pick who stayed and got injured. Wheatley was still drafted high but that injury may have shortened his career. His draft results weren't typical for a player who got injured in his senior season. You don't jeopardize your future for a chance to win the Heisman.

So I open this one up during lunch hoping to kill some time until Brian gets the Rutgers recap up on the front page and I see the voting is going badly.  I read exactly two lines of the OPs thoughts and I understand why.

"It is no secret that Jim Harbaugh is all in on the Peppers/Heisman hype train. From a coach who's basic foundation is molded around ''The Team, The Team, The Team", I do find it interesting that Jim is not afraid to publicy state that Peppers is the best player on the field, at all times.

I have to give the OP props though for staying in the thread to defend it.  Lots of crop dusting posts where the OP cuts one (so to speak) and then wanders away.  Not Chris - he's 100% owning this one.

No, he's not trying to get him back. He's trying to drum up attention for one of his best players to get an invite to the Heisman ceremony. That is good for:

1. Peppers

2. UofM prestige

3. Recruiting

4. Profit....

Peppers is gone, rightfully so, after this season. Enjoy him while you can.

He said he's getting his degree before he leaves. I remember it plain as day. Twitter I believe it was. I mean what if he does come back and he still hasn't reached his ceiling? How good can he be? I guess I don't mind if he goes pro. As long as he cracks Barrett's skull I'm all good with it. Oh I can't wait for him on a blitz or two with a free shot untouched on Barrett. Fucker is going to see stars that day.

I think Pepper's ultimate goal is Nirvana. All these Top 10 draft pick, Heisman etc. possibly don't hold any attraction to him.

Think of it this way, would you rather pull in a high salary and start making money from next year? Or would you rather shoot for an one time award (not a scholarship) and delay earning six figure salaries for a year? Please keep in mind that the delay could cost you the job your are going to get due to an injury.

If Peppers wants my advice, I'm telling him to go - and won't hesitate to do so.  Much as I want him to stay and win all the games and stuff, he needs to get that top draft choice locked away.  He's earned that, I don't want anything to get in his way.

Unless, of course, HE decides he just loves college football...  :)

I would say the ONLY scenario where Peppers comes back next season would be a NC loss, or a snub to get into the 4 team playoff. I have never seen a player so competitive, and someone who enjoys playing for Michigan as much as him in a long time. That being said, I don't see him coming back to compete for a Heisman, I think being a candidate is almost as big of an honor as winning it (due to ridiculous standards and the rigged voting process, SEE McCaffrey last year stats compared to Henry). Also, like you stated, he is a sure fire top 10 draft pick, so it would be extremely difficult to turn that down. So, lets just hope we make a run in the CFP and Jabrill gets an invite when its all said and done.

is building a program.  Peppers is great and should go on to have a long and successful NFL career after being drafted in the top 5 or 10 spots this year.

A great coach, like Harbaugh, will want whats best for each player, their families, and the program going forward.  It would be selfish for Harbaugh to give Peppers any other advice than to go pro at the end of the year.

Now, if Peppers chooses on his own volition to stay, like Lewis last year, then great and all kudos to him....but great programs like Bama and OSU are now, give their NFL blessings to their players that are ready for the league even if they have eligibility left.

and in contrast to lewis' situation, our team will probably be weaker next year than this year.  the seniors who returned this year did so because we were loaded with experience and talent, and had a great shot to make the playoffs

i dont think that is the case for next year.  Next year we will be replacing most of our starting secondary, dline, linebackers, oline, and WRs

of the remaining positions we are losing an AA TE, and our starting RB

So you're suggesting Jim Harbaugh is essentially playing mind games with his best player to dupe him into forgoing his professional career so Harbaugh can milk one more year out of him?

That would be terrible.  Do you not like Jim Harbaugh or something?

Regardless, thanks for the thread.  I love watching these things burn.
