Penn St could use 3 Qbs good or bad for the defense?
I live in PA and since Bolden was taken out of the game on saturday there is talk that Penn State will use more then one and probably all 3 of their quaterbacks on saturday. I believe that could be a problem for our defense...thinking back to how tate played vs Iowa. what do you guys think?

Let's see:
1) Concussed true freshman - v2.0 of Threet
2) Fat running QB that can't throw - v2.0 of Feagin
3) Gritty walk-on that sucks - v2.0 of Sheridan.
I've seen this movie before, it doesn't end well for the team with this problem.

KNew is as limited as Denard was last year, maybe more. He also didn't look that impressive on the run against Minnesota.
McGloin is probably a big upgrade on Sheridan, but like him, he's a considerable step down (not a good change of pace) from a true freshman.

Was Feagin fat? I don't remember much of him, other than his scamper against Minny, when he looked pretty swift.

Yeah, but there was this one scene in that movie where option #3 goes crazy.
While it's unlikely, there is always the chance for one of those (McGloin in this example) to go all Sheridan v. Minnesota 2008 on our defense.

A team plays 3 quarterbacks, 1st, 2nd , 3rd on their depth chart and that's a bad thing? We would be lucky if they play 3 quarterbacks. We are in a different position having Tate who started all of last season. If we had to play our 3 Qbs, would that be a good thing?

But that has little to do with anything. It's not basketball. Forcier is not playing defense against their backup QB.

It did when I replied. I believe the original poster edited his post. I believe he used to have something in there along the lines "like we've seen with Tate coming off the bench, should we be worried of a similar perfornace by their backup"

I have seen the play before, but what actually happpened in that play? I know Alan is a big guy, and that Lion looks tiny, but the hit is never actually shown. Can someone explain?

So what this boils down to is a rehash of what happened in the ND game where the Domers rolled out their whole depth chart against us? Without, mind you, the threat of anyone approximating the seasoned veteran that Crist is? Gripe all you want about the PSU QB's representing more of a run-threat, but this can only bode well for us.

If they're going to roll out a couple new QBs, I think it's best that we roll out a couple wrinkles to our defense. Let's face it, what we've done the first 7 games hasn't been to tough for ANY D-Coordinator to figure out. Let's storm the beaches, so to speak, and put Bolden/Newsome/McGroin into an uncomfortable position of having to figure stuff out as the game unfolds.

you are playing with a team searching for an identity, any variation from the norm is bad for their opponent. In that vein, I was not happy when I heard that Bolden may be questionable for this weekend. A new quarterback could mean "a new beginning" and so on, I think the game became more dangerous for Michigan based on that injury.

Seriously, they don't have much of anything that can be considered a good change of pace. Newsome is Denard (2009) in the passing game and isn't anywhere near the same run threat. McGloin is worse than Bolden at everything (grit?).
If you want to look for a backup that could give a "new beginning", then look at Silas Redd not their QBs.

all things considered, I prefer teams that M and has a sufficient shot at beating to be 100%. It is not like Penn State has been world-beating with Bolden, I have watched the kid play, he is alright, but not spectacular in any regard. So all I would just assume take any wild card out of the equation.

Denard--3 quarters--puts up 5-6 TDs
Tate --10 minutes--puts up 2 TDs
Jack Kennedy --5 minutes--runs for 1 TD

I don't see Penn State playing 3 QBs this weekend. Either Bolden will play the whole game or he won't, in which case McGloin and Newsome will play and they both suck horribly.
