Is anyone watching this? Due is up 14-3 against Johnny Football at the end of the first and is in the red zone looking to go up 21-3.
Peach Bowl Open Thread
Johnny Football must like eating at Chick Fil A as much as Frank Clark likes going to BWW.
Duke has only had the ball for 5:44. They're up 21-3.
Uh, I hate that I am rooting for Duke.
You are doing just that. Try, try, try to separate your thoughts about Duke basketball from the reality of the football program, which will probably never become a big time anything and WHICH IS DOING A JOB ON THE S.E.C. RIGHT NOW! I am loving this.
Not worthy. Not worthy. Not worthy.
To honor Johnny, I am going to try and remember as little as possible of this game.
28-10. Duke just scored on a 59 yard touchdown pass.
The A&M secondary is having a terrible game. 28-10 Duke
is not last in SEC in passing defense. That'd be the team who is playing in the BCS national title game. Shocking? I know!
When is that guy gonna do that jump on his motorcycle?
Can Duke have a better dline than us? They look faster and meaner??? Who coaches our guys and why does our defense look so slow and non aggressive?
- Justin Foxx, 3-star 5th-year senior, 3-year starter
- Jamal Bruce, 2-star RS junior, first-year starter (had foot surgery going into last year)
- Sydney Sarmiento, 2-star 5th-year senior, 4-year starter
- Kenny Anunike, 3-star 6th-year senior. 2 1/3 year starter (was the starter at the beginning of his sophomore year but had knee surgery four games in)
If I counted right they average 30 starts per lineman; Sarmiento is starting his 50th game tonight. Score one for experience. And patience.
Wisconsin's got to be looking at that guy.
You've come to the wrong place fella.
Did anyone else see that perfect throw? Man that accuracy was prefect. Johnny Manziel is perfect.
When Johnny Manziel takes a knee it will be the greatest kneel they've seen since Mike Vick.
That's what it's like listening to this game.
I think Johnny will make a great comeback. I also thought ASU stood a chance last night too, so there's that.
35-17 Duke. They've scored on every possession.
Aggies defense is horrible. Five chances, five TD's.
Touchdown Duke 35-17
Duke just recovered the on-side kick.
Duke calls the onside kick and they get it.
Ham. Yard. Whatever. Duke is destroying A&M. Glad I got em +12!
David Cutcliffe for coach of the Lions? Duke is as close to the Lions as you can find in BCS football.
Lions do not need a coach who blows a big halftime lead and allows bad clock management at the half be the difference between a field goal and touchdown that ended up being the losing margin. Would have been more economical to keep Schwartz.
Bad clock management leaves Duke with a 2nd and goal from the half yard line with 4 seconds left. They settle for a field goal to go in the locker room up 38-17.
Is Duke trying to show the world that the SEC is overrated?
Johnny football laughing in disgust from the side line.
Duke looks awfully good. That offense looks razor sharp. How good does this make FSU considering what they did to Duke?
more about TAM's defense, which has been bad all season.
Just tuned into a tv at a NYE party, saw Duke was up 38-17. Wow.....
JF is really good but Duke is absolutely manhandling aTm 38-17 at the half.
FSU is one of the best college football teams ever. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Auburn by 30.
I hope you're right. Manhandling Auburn like that would certainly solidify their argument as one of the greatest teams ever.
FSU had more good news today with consensus 5* RB Dalvin Cook decommitting from Florida and committing to FSU.
Does this mean more people believe FSU is the real deal now?
According to Mark May, Johnny Football can't save the world because he has been on the sideline the entire game.
Duke has had 6 drives; Texas A&M has had 5 and has had the ball longer.
It looks like GERG is coaching the TAMU D.
This game ain't over, though. TAMU gets a score and turnover, then we'll see.
Maybe Sumlin will decide losing Johnny Football and having this D is good reason to talk with the Lions about the HC job.
Player development. Offensive coordination.
- Happy New Years.
Duke kept FSU scoreless for one quarter of the ACC championship...which means than in 15 minutes they played more defense than aTm have played all year.
No way in hell Johnny Football cones back next year (if there was ever even a doubt) if he has this kind of a defense to prop up every week. I want the Aggies to win because of him, but Duke's performance is incredible tonight.
Bummed to see all the empty seats though...aTm represents here about as well as Missouri did last month against Auburn.
If memory serves, ever since they started this whole "ACC vs. ESS, EEE, SEE" thing for this bowl game, the ACC is actually ahead by one win...looks like it's going to finish in the basketball conference's favor comfortably at this rate
TAMU should have offered him a million. They offered a lot of dough but not really more than Mattison is making.
Narduzzi could fix TAMU's D.
Love watching a team play with a chip on their shoulder.
Ole Miss firing Cutcliffe after one bad season has to be the dumbest firing of all time.
Also Tennessee is stupid for not hiring him.
As much as I love to whoop and holler "HAHA, JOHNNY FOOTBALL'S GETTING HIS ASS KICKED," it turns out that he's thrown for 200 yards and 2 TDs so far with a 72% completion rate, which, like... damn. Even when he's not on, he's on.
...he's not Charles Woodson, after all.
Bill O'Brien to the texans just came across twitter from Adam Schefter ...
Texas A&M should hire Greg Robinson from Texas.
He can walk it as well fellas.
Nothing like a guy who trash talks down 21 points. Maybe that's why people don't like you.
Alternatively, given the comeback and sick plays, it's precisely why a lot of people do like him.
Isn't it the Chick-Fil-A Bowl?
Kinda like how we played in the Copper Bowl, which has absolutely no other name associated with it.
So we just call all of the bowls by their "old" names? I just want to make sure I understand.
Or at least one of them, I think there were others.
38-24 now, so the Aggies can definitely pull it off.
Okay, that was something special.
Manziel is a good version of Tate Forcier. They look like the same player, but Manziel consistently finishes.
I think a more accurate way to describe it is, Tate was a slower, less accurate, dumber, and far less magical version of JF.
Was puking on the sideline before the fg
Duke's starting to pucker a little bit.
I feel it coming, a Duke collapse. 38-31.
Step 1. Use the Dominos sponsored Michigan jet to fly to Atlanta.
Step 2. Convince ATM's offensive coordinator to fly back to Ann Arbor with you.
Step 3. Have a Brinks armored car at the airport with 2 million in it. Say, "This is just year 1 if your contract."
Step 4. If 2 mil is not enough, have Kate Upton waiting next to the armored truck, better yet, have the money as her blanket.
Step 5. Tell him, "you are the head coach in waiting."
really? What planet are you living on?
C'mon, seriously. JF would make Al Borges look like a genius. He'd make me look like a genius. Hell, he'd make Tony Kornheiser look like a genius.
More like: 1. run Dominos pizza so far into the ground that after you leave they start running adds admitting that Domino pizza is really shitty,
2. Hire Hoke and require no accountability
3. Try to squeeze every dime out of program even if it alienates everyone
WOW that catch
I wasn't actually watching the game, but I just went to check the score on my phone. Saw this lovely mathematically impossible headline from the worldwide leader on the mobile site. Can someone explain how you score on all six of your five possesions?
Funny! That's pretty much what it seemed like, though!
Did you know that Johnny Manziel might be playing his last game tonight for Texas A&M???
He might be performing with Zac Brown Band tomorrow as well.
Duke's gonna piss this game away.
I don't get the hate for Manziel, I really don't. The things the guy can do are ridiculous. If he played basketball he would be Allen Iverson.
College football is gonna miss him terribly when he's gone.
I don't like him because he's a dick. I get trash talk and having swagger, but I feel like he goes too far with it.
I know what you mean, but I think he probably talks trash as much as your run of the mill wide receiver/defensive back. We just see it all of the time because he is a QB.
That's because they happen to go one on one with people and get physical with one another. Plus he tends to stop and talk trash which is going a little out of your way. It might just be me.
I remember when I hated Michael Jordan too. If he would've played for the Pistons, I'm guessing I would've loved him.
I hope like hell that punk doesnt end up on any team I root for. Jordan comparison is more appropriate for Peyton Manning haters, or Tom Brady haters.
Time will tell if he is the real deal in the NFL. He is ridiculously talented, but not an apparent ounce of maturity or class. I hope one day I am wrong, but I think he will have behavior and ego problems at the next level.
Worst call of the night was the attempted fade on Duke's last 1st and goal. No good reason not to pound it in from there.
Nope, ACC title game vs. No. 1 FSU.
Something about Duke that has bugged me all night: The OL rarely jump into the pile and push the RB farther. Sometimes they do, but not nearly as much as other teams. I wonder why?
That was amazing balance. Duke might pull this off!
There's still some game to go yet, but I will say that they might be right on ESPN in that this is perhaps the biggest game in Duke football history. For myself, I didn't think there would be a day soon where we were talking about Duke being A) in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Eve, and B) almost at 600 yards of offense in a game that they could very well win now that they are up 10 points again.
The crazy part is, the Duke QB is having one hell of a game too.
Duke might need one more score. TAMU might have 2 possessions left.
Now Duke DEFINITELY needs another score.
Manziel's stats are really great, but please look at the league he put most of them up against.
A&M probably should've kicked onside there, that extra 5 yards helped a little, too. Duke already at midfield where they would've been had A&M not gotten the onside kick, now just with even less time.
Welp. That was fun while that lasted.
Just as I was typing that Duke wasn't burning enough clock, THAT happened. Now they're going to need that clock.
That was probably the finisher. Gut feeling Texas A&M hold on to win, unfortunately. God I hate the SEC.
A&M is a temporarily misassigned Big 12 team.
They've really always been an SEC team, the world just finally gave them a chance to acknowledge it. Mizzou is the major misfit IMO.
...and 70 yards rushing, 1 TD.
AND aTm SCORES A DEFENSIVE TD TO TAKE THE LEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pick six. C'mon Duke, don't fold now!!
This game is all offense, all the time. (minus that pick-6 of course)
That 2nd no-call was a total PI. 100%.
Duke might just be clutch enough
SEC > World
Watching Johnny Football > Threesome with two Playmates
Whoa calm down there buddy.
That is just wrong on every possible level.
Duke was doing so well, too.
If Duke pulled it off, it would have shown that conference isn't all it's hyped up to be. Please FSU, please do it.
Good. The last thing the sports world needs is another reason for Duke fake to be snotty and stick their noses up to the rest of us.
Texas A&M wins this game, but tomorrow they have to come to the realization that their golden boy is, in all likelihood, leaving them for the NFL.
I hate to break it to you, but A&M fans have known for 6+ months that, barring some sort of injury or meltdown, Manziel would enter the draft. Great way to go out though, puts a nice spin on a semi-disappointing final season.
Aaaawwwwwww.....MAAAAN!! what a terrible way to end that game for the Dukies. I kinda feel bad for those kids
If he stays ESPN dedicates 6 hrs. per day to Manziel programming starting this summer.
Only if they make Aggie heads asplode by putting it on the Longhorn Network.
End of story.
Why does Manziel act like a cocky bastard? Because he can put up 450 yards of offense and keep his team in games they've got no business competing in, let alone winning. What a player.
I can't believe Texas A&M actually did it. I posted earlier that I thought JF would have a great comeback, but I didn't even expect that.
