Paul Finebaum defends Jim Harbaugh

Submitted by Maizen on

After having Teddy Greenstein on his radio show this afternoon Paul Finebaum defended Jim Harbaugh and called this a media driven "non story." Was pretty amused it was getting all this attention.

He also said Harbaugh is going to win a national title "very soon, possibly next year."

Paul has been a big Harbaugh supporter since he was hired and it's good to see someone with the media profile he has taking this stance, especially after the tantrum Valenti threw today.

Paul has covered Bama for years. He has seen it all with recruiting. People up here haven't. I am indifferent, but I can see both sides (don't care just win vs. this isn't the best approach).

Back in Bo's days UM and OSU had way more players than today, they would take guys they probably knew weren't going to play to keep them away from MSU or Indiana, was that wrong? No it was the way it was, if players didn't want to come they could go elsewhere. Now scholarships are more limited so the coaches have to make sure they get the best they can get, why, because if they don't they will get fired, see Brady Hoke. UM hired Harbaugh to win and win he will. Will a few players be dissapointed because they got "cut" in the recruiting process yes. They can go play somewhere else in the past they sat and waited. There will be thousands of high school players dissapointed because they aren't able to play in college, that is the way it is. Harbaugh isn't going after a participation trophy.

I think people are over reacting to this Swenson thing. Word on the street is that UM wanted him to camp here, so they could see him in person...He didn't. They then told him you have to earn your scholarship with impressive senior film...Again he did not. So people are complaining saying take an unimpressive kid that hasn't improved just because our former coach offered him way to early? That's bs. That's not the real world. If you want something you have to go get it and earn it.

The rivals are obsessed with Harbuagh. Check out their boards. They talk about Harbaugh more than we do. They're going nuts over all the decommitments and how their coaches would never do anything like that, nor would they sleep at a recruits house or go to class with them. They're above all that you know, LOL!

Keep doing what you're doing Jimmy, you're getting into their heads.

Between tuition, contributions and tickets, I've bought my right to bitch or cheer.  I'm not so sure it's Michigan's fanbase is responsible for the "mess" though.  Harbaugh isn't beloved in many corners and in many other corners Michigan is either respected or resented for its integrity.  There are plenty of sources for the "mess."
