Per jhackney's request, and bc he's the OBVIOUS frontrunner now that the chin is headed to SF, let's talk Patterson. Annnnnnnd GO!

PSH called...he wants his face back.  It never clicked for me as to why I kept thinking of Truman Capote and suspected nefarious priests whenever I saw Patterson's face...that is, until you cut through the Gordian Knot for me with that astute observation.

Imaginary points to you, friend.

Patterson would be my first choice on the list, but it's starting to look like it's Miles.  Jet in Baton Rouge to talk to the LSU president/Miles' agent.  Just seems like it's piling up towards him as the guy.

At least with Miles you know he'll hire the right assistants (ala Bo Pelini).  But I would much prefer Patterson.

I don't understand why no-one except Brian is advocating Mullen.  I think he's a better choice than Patterson by far.

With TCU's move to the Big East, TCU gives Patterson an easier path to the BCS every year than Michigan would.  And TCU's football budget is bigger than Michigan's.  Plus, he's been there ten years.  If I were him, I'd stay where I was, even if I thought that the Michigan job was, in theory, a better one.

Mullen has far more motivation to come to UM than Patterson does.  He has a low ceiling for achievement at Miss. St.  Even if he does the greatest coaching job in history, he still won't move Miss. St. into the top half of the SEC.  Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee will always be more prestigious than Miss. St., no matter how great Mullen might be.  The best he can hope to do is move Miss. St. past Ole Miss.  Woo-hoo.

I think Mullen is the South-to-North version of Nick Saban (except I have no reason to think he's an a-hole).  Just as Saban left a low-ceiling program at MSU (note the coincidence) to move to underachieving LSU, Mullen can leave Miss. St. and revive the sleeping giant of the Big Ten.

1. He wasn't interested in the Florida job, which makes me think for some odd reason he's happy in Mississippi

2. Manny Diaz is off to Texas.  For me, a large part of Mullen's appeal was the likelihood of Manny Diaz coming with him to fix our defense.  With Diaz gone, it's a bit of a gamble similar to when Rich Rod came to Michigan without Casteel.

For the record, I would still prefer Mullen to just about anyone else out there besides Patterson.

I think his apparent inability to bring Diaz with him is a big problem.

I'm not so persuaded by his disinterest in the Florida job.  Following Urban Meyer is going to be a god-awful task.  The risk of failure and ridicule is so high.  In addition, the Florida AD (Foley?) is supposed to be a real pain in the ass.  I can understand why he'd pass on that.

I think you are right on.

Dear Harbaugh,

I hope you flip your bike over and knock your two front teeth out! You selfish son of a bitch! You leave the program in the trenches taking grenades, Jim!

I just don't feel that way. Doesn't he have kids from first marriage on Left Coast? And wife from there? And if he wants to coach in the NFL, more power to him. I would have loved to have him because I think he would have done a great job, but I don't feel the anger.

are in San Diego area other than his kid in college in the northwest.  Not sure how often he sees them anyways.

It might have played somewhat of a factor but the reality is, his dream was not to come to Michigan like he represented

he is doing.  My fear was that if he had come here, he would be dumping us in 2 or 3 years for the NFL.  So, might as well not even go down that path.  Let's try to get someone who will be here 8 or 10 years.

I agree. I never wanted him in the first place. Not after his snide comments, then not once refusing he would take the Michigan job so that everyone reached down their polyester pants and played with their own trouser snake when....yup "Got you again Michigan...(evil laugh)"!

"I didn't want those grapes, anyway they're probably sour"

Now, don't ask me why a fox would be trying to reach grapes, but that is not the point of this fable. So there you go.

I do wish that JH had tipped his hand earlier. He has to have known that A) he would get NFL offers, B) he would accept an NFL offer over a UM offer, and C) that we went through DB's ridiculous waiting game all in hope sof getting him. On second thought, you're right, F him.

Michigan Men by choice, not by negotiation.

Harbaugh can go knockheads against Carroll for 2x a year. If he washed out in 3 years, then it's back to the NCAAs. I have no desire to ever hear of Harbaugh again.

If this was, his belief, that it was one chance to get a NFL, then he's a Mercenary Man, NOT a Michigan Man.
