Look I am not rooting for Pat Narduzzi but you could say all the saame bad things about MSU football for 45 years.  The only guy who went there and didnt end up in mediocrity was Nick Saban.  Until Dantonio.

A very good coach can do very good things anywhere now.   See TCU, Utah, Boise State, KSU, South Carolina, wherever.   I have no idea how good of a coach he will be - he could be average, poor, good whatever.

Pitt is a great situation FOR HIM.  His personality fits the city - Pitt football is page 3 in their sports, none of the pressure a coach at Nebraska Michigan or OSU would ever feel.   Chryst actually recruited some pretty damn good offensive players - we dont know about it since we dont follow ACC football but they have a 250 lb RB who just went of for like 1500 yards, he is a SO.  They have a 5 star WR who just went off for 1000+ yarrds, he is a SO.  Their QB is a SO.  Their offense was top 30 in the country and young.  Their defense was not great but that is Narduzzi's side of the ball.

He grew up 100 miles away in Youngstown OH, he recruits that area, his personality fits that area, the ACC is as bad as the Big 10, and he is in the division without any power in it - Clemson and FSU are on the other side.  If he is a good coach he can be "3rd place" in the ACC on a yearly basis before he moves onto better things.  Chryst set him up very well.  And if he is "elite" there is no reason he cannot do for Pitt what Dantonio did for MSU.   That is be more or less equal to Clemson (which is their equivalent of Wisconsin nowadays) and maybe in 5-6 years beat FSU when they have a down year.  FSU being their OSU.

There is no PSU or Michigan equivalent in the ACC ... well Clemson of today is similar to the Michigan of the Carr era but I am talking right now.   He could not have aske for a better situation other than the Louisville job that Petrino got as Charlie Strong set up that team for continued success as well.

He could also be a bad HC material and fail there.  He "looks" like a Pelini 2.0 to me from afar.  He will rub people the wrong way with his intensity and is not the best public speaker.  But 8 wins at Pitt is fine while 8 at Nebraska gets you fired.

It's a perfect fit for many reasons already mentioned but I'll add another. It will be a easy transition from Pitt to Michigan State when Mark Dantonio decides to retire given the similar recruiting territories. Mark Dantonio may coach 6-7 more years and by then if things go well Narduzzi could have a good staff around him, plenty of head coaching experience, and graduated a couple of his recruiting classes.

So if Narduzzi wants the MSU job in a few years Pitt is perfect.

Look at the last Sparty coordinator to get a head coaching job : Don Treadwell. Left to be HC at Miami (NTM) and is now running backs coach at Kent. That's probably a more likely career trajectory for Narduzzi than blinding success. Also, Treadwell's replacement as OC was a hire from within guy that subsequently was bounced a couple of years later.

Congrats to Pat Narduzzi on his new HC job. that's a win for him.

And good for M nation for removal of a thorn from our side, which Mr. Narduzzi has been for the last several seasons --- a win for us.

Don't underestimate what Pat brought to the MSU defense during his tenure there. A Broyles Award winner in 2013, it was his players and his defensive schemes that held M offenses to such paltry numbers. Yes, M's less-than-Outland O-line helped, but MSU's defensive prep and playcalling were pretty much Pat.

It's not that simple.  Dantonio hasn't been a DC for over a decade and isn't going to do it all himself.  He's also not super young and has had some health problems so doing too much is not in his (or MSU's) best interest.  Narduzzi didn't win the 2013 Broyles Award or get the Pitt HC job by being Dantonio's puppet.  That was Narduzzi's defense and Narduzzi ran it.

Narduzzi was also a guy who got the MSU players very riled up and was a great recruiter.  That all needs to be replaced now.

As for MSU, I have not been on the Herman OR Narduzzi bandwagon because coordinators on the same side of the ball as the head coach specializes in tend to benefit from the HC expertise.  That doesnt mean they are not quality coaches - they could be.  But MSU is not going anywhere until Dantonio retires.  He is a very good coach but for the first time in his career he has real disruption in his coaching ranks especially if Barnett or Tressel leave to be Narduzzi's DC.  It's not going to kill the program but it will require more work and adjustment next year.   Dantonio probably is the best DB coach in the country - he just took two 2 stars and made them into 1st round draft picks last year and this year with Waynes.  That stuff is not changing.

Also people forget the MSU fanbase wanted Narduzzi fired in 2009, the 3rd year there.  The defense was bad early - very bad.  Those early MSU teams won more with offense which is ironic considering the reptuation nowadays.  It wasnt until the players Dantonio recruited early in his tenure became upperclassmen did MSU's D take off in 2010 forward.

And again I will stress that defense works PERFECT for the Big 10 which LACKS throwing QBs.  When facing throwing QBs that defense can be pilfered.  Purdue with Appleby in his 2nd start put up 31.  Indiana last year put up 28.  We arre looking thru the lens of UM fans which have not had a capable consistent throwing QB since 2007.  With all due respect to Denard and Devin - their throws were "hope" most of the time.  That is why MSU dominates a QB like Tommy Armstrong.

That D would not work in the Pac 12 or Big 12 - you cannot devote 8 players to stopping the run in conference that actually play Air Raid, Pass spread, and have QBs who actually have a chance to play in the NFL.  I bet if you go thru the past half decade of Big 10 QBs you'd be hard pressed to find many in the NFL - and I am not including Russell Wilson who to prove my point, carved that defense up.  The Big 10's shit QBs helped MSU a lot and I give them credit for exploiting that.

I hope that you are right. I don't understand the sheer elation at the news of Narduzzi being gone. Good teams make great teams better. I would have loved for him to stay and we face a fully loaded MSU. In the same respect, I don't want Urban going anywhere. I want these games to matter. The B1G will be better if MSU, OSU and Michigan all are good at the same time. When we went on our national championship run it felt like we faced a ranked team every week. And it made the games more exciting and truly gave us bragging rights. That is what I want again. That is what I hope this coaching change will bring.

Who gives a shit fuck him and msu, i am tired of people thinking he is the best thing in defense side of the ball since slice bread..yes they had a good defense on a bad conference and they kicked our ass. What do you expect when you have a big ten sooo bad and our school hasnt had a competent coach since 2006..msu and its coaches took advantage of it and rolled over us...lets get the right guy who can coach then I will give credit. You saw what a good team (osu) did to their great defense..Jesus Narduzzi will eventually come back to msu.

With this hire and Colorado State hiring Mike Bobo from Georgia we are now the only vacancy left in Division 1! WAT IS TAKING SO LONG? Why don't we have a coach? What are they waiting for? /sarc
