Pat Forde Is Still a Tool

Submitted by heckdchi on

In this week's Forde Yard Dash, this "journalist" writes:

"An ongoing NCAA investigation into rule-breaking practice hours doesn't help -- especially with the report this week that the football program failed to keep the required practice logs."

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&page=da…

How nice of this "journalist" to use his enormous platform to mislead the masses with, at best incomplete information, and at worst misleading crap.

How is it that blogs are better at Forde and Wilbon's jobs?

That statement is true, and shares no opinion on the matter. Is RichRod under a lot of pressure and scrutiny? Yes. Does the investigation add to that scrutiny? Yes. Does this new report raise eye brows at all? Yes. This board likes to jump on ESPN at every chance, because a lot of times they are fucking retarded rumor-mongerers. But every negative thing said about Michigan isn't evidence of it. Twice today now there have been posts about ESPN. One faulting them for publishing an AP article, and now this, about an article which doesn't say anything controversial.

he jumped on forde because he calls them "required logs" and leaving it at that makes them appear to be logs required by the ncaa; however, they are not required by the ncaa, but are a tool used by the michigan administration.

it is accurate in one sense, but very misleading.

I find nothing wrong with what Forde is writing. Its all true. You sound like an internet ND fan talking about officals. Yes sometimes people write stupid stuff. But this isnt an "ESPN sucks lol", or "Colin Cowherd is a fag who hates us". So please stop crying wolf.

Thanks for missing the point and resorting to name calling, I'm glad we can all handle this like mature adults. If you have anything to add to the discussion about the inaccuracy of Forde's article implying that the practice logs that weren't kept were required by the NCAA then please comment away.

Oh, and I'm not crying wolf, and WTF does that even mean in this context? That I'm blaming ESPN for Michigan sucking this year? Please read the whole post before commenting and, again, if I didn't make my point clear in the first place then that's on me, otherwise this is just getting absurd.

1. Name calling? Where do I call you a name?
2. He never says required by the NCAA. The practice logs were required. The school requires them. So he is 100% right saying the football team didn't keep required logs.
3. Crying wolf. Saying stuff like: "How nice of this "journalist" to use his enormous platform to mislead the masses with at best incomplete information, and at worst misleading crap."
This is crying wolf. Because if you always say stuff like "this guy isn't being a journalist", or this is "shitty journalism" when there is actually is "shitty journalism" like the Free Press mess people won't believe you. It will be just another case of a fan looking at everything through maize n blue glasses.
4. I don't think something titled "Forde Yard Dash", is really a fact punching piece of journalistic creditability. Its basically an opinion piece some guy pumps out to get a few laughs and base information.

How many of the people who read that column on espn.com would have the knowledge that the practice logs were required by the school as opposed to the NCAA? I'm willing to bet that most people who read that bit make the assumption that the NCAA required those logs and that Michigan didn't keep them and that this could very well mean that Michigan was consciously trying to break NCAA rules.

Maybe you are right. But his point is still valid. It is a problem they didn't keep the logs. They should have kept the logs period. The point of what he is saying is the department fucked up and this is not helping RR. He wasn't wrting to say oh look they fucked up but not as bad as they could have fucked up. That's what a Michigan fan wants people to know. But I am sorry the real story is, like it or not, that someone fucked up and it is not helping the situation. I think we can all agree on that.

of all their sources of information and reasoning and support of their statements. Then suppose they were regularly audited by an independent source.

That's an audit that'd be worth going to.

I don't disagree that there is an internal issue with Michigan not keeping records that it requires itself to keep. But that is different than not keeping records as required by the NCAA. All I want is media honesty and objectivity. There is a story there, unfortunately, but what Forde wrote is misleading. That's all I'm trying to say. Let's move on, GO BLUE, BEAT OSU!!
