this past saturday at the big house

Submitted by dissapointedfan on
I have been a long time Michigan Fan and have been proudly wearing blue and maze for years. This past Saturday was my first ever visit to the Big House. I was overjoyed with excitement as I entered the stadium to find my seat: sec 18 row 25 seat 14. It was like holding the golden ticket... I finally get to see the best team in the world play live.

The game starts and I am surrounded by Michigan fans who are standing up and cheering.. I stand up and join in on the awesome experience.. until 2 stadium officers come down and told me personally to take a seat. I was surrounded by cheering fans and I had to take a seat?? I was completely embarrassed by the situation. I could understand taking care of someone who was being unruly, drunk, or not watch their language, but none of that happened. I don't understand why and the experience embarrassed me in front of friends and family. I was singled out for cheering. I am suppose to be attending a couple more games in the following month, but after the experience, I'm not sure I want to go. It wasn't a proud day to be a Michigan fan.

Disappointed,

...I just don't believe this. There have been too many of these lately and they're becoming less and less credible. I've been in the Big House dozens of times and, not only have I never had a problem, I've never heard of or seen anyone having a problem. I believe that it happens and that there are a few bad ushers and some bad fans in the stands. I don't believe it's common and I don't believe it's diary material at this point.

It was moved to just a forum topic rather quickly. But, I have personally seen ushers do this. It would not surprise me if they are instructed to tell people to sit down when there are only a few that are standing and causing a lot more fans to be upset.

Perhaps a bit more information is needed. The only time I have seen this happen is when a person refuses to sit down when everyone else sits down. So, even though you stated, "I am surrounded by Michigan fans who are standing up and cheering..." did they all sit down and you refused to?

Don't indulge this nonsense. It's one thing to do some navel-gazing about the stadium experience, but come on. This is garbage. The story, as we are to understand it, is that this guy was at the stadium and standing up and cheering, as were all of the people around him, and two "officers" came down and told him to sit down. That's it. That's the story. Let's move on.

He would have us believe that an entire group was standing up and for some strange, odd reason he was the only one told to sit down. Furthermore he was embarrassed by the incident? Really? If something like that really gets under your skin that much you need new priorities in life. All the cases I've seen people being told to sit down their friends and family agree with them and think the usher is being an @ss... I'm hoping someone else in that section can confirm or deny this story...

I don't understand these "long-time Michigan fans1!1!! wearing the maze and blue!" who are forever posting that the upcoming game will be their first experience at Michigan Stadium. I mean, misspelling maize probably should make it obvious you didn't go to school here, but at the same time, if you were such a huge fan for such a long time, where the heck have you been? It seems like every week there's a new thread like this cropping up, usually with the same pile of misspellings and unbelievable tales... I don't get it.

I agree that there are way too many similar stories on this board but that doesn't mean that every story is untrue. For some people it is their first game ever. It's hard to get to the games, especially if you don't live in the state of Michigan. I've loved Michigan for a good ten years, ever since i was seven, and Saturday will be my first chance to visit to the Big House. My mom grew up in Ann Arbor, and her dad was a professor but it is hard to get to the games if you live far away. There are too many stories like this, but some of the people on here are genuine.

Registered today with a user name of disappointedfan? Are you kidding me? And then to say, "proudly wearing blue and maze for years". Alright, any real Michigan fan knows it's Maize and Blue, not blue and maze. Troll. Edit: OP even spelled disappointed wrong in his screen name. 50/50 chance this Troll is either from MSU or WVU.

I snuck three beers into the student section against Western. The ushers busted me almost immediately, and they just gave me a stern warning. I should've been arrested. My point is, bring a flask.

How blatant were you with the beers? I wore a Camelbak to every game last year and never got caught. They may kick you out for the open intox or have the DPS issue you a fine, but I do not think you can be arrested for having the beers.

I truly wish it was untrue. I live in the Northwest Part of Ohio and this past Saturday was my first time there. I was so embarrassed along with my other friends. I understand if I was getting in someones face or cussing but I wasnt. We were all standing up along with everyone around us cheering for Michigan to stop EMU on a 3rd and long. Next thing I knew two officers came down to told me to Sit down.

It has been 15 years since I lived in the area and I don’t attend games much, but this type of thing is very disappointing. ( I understand that some alumni may not be able to handle standing all the time anymore) With that said, I was thrilled that when taking my wife to her first Michigan game early this month, the whole section was into the game. Not once were we asked to sit down. In fact, we both lost our voices and had a wonderful time.
