Partridge addresses Recruiting (TomVh article)

Submitted by RED DAWN on

"You have to continue to work," Partridge said. "You can't just shut things down when you get a scholarship offer. You still have to hold up your end of the bargain academically and athletically."

Partridge said parents of other Michigan commitments have been in touch to ask about the incidents -- and to notify them of negative recruiting efforts by other schools.

"It just shows us that, if we weren't doing a good job then they wouldn't be doing that kind of stuff," Partridge said. "We're doing a good job. We had a phenomenal season and I think people must be a little intimidated because they're really going into their imagination to make stuff up. I feel very strongly about Coach Harbaugh and the direction we're headed, and we just plan to stay the course."

"With Jabrill, I'd be sitting in the room and people would pull out booklets and PowerPoints trying to recruit against other schools," he said. "One time a coach had a booklet with a cover page, beautiful binding, that he gave to me and Jabrill. I started to go through it and it was all bashing the five other schools Jabrill was considering.

"I grabbed the book from Jabrill, grabbed mine and threw [them] in the trash and told the coach that we would now like to hear about his school."

Partridge says Harbaugh told his staff not to attempt to combat negative recruiting, which he said isn't part of Michigan's strategy.

Ordering the design and production of a professionally-binded booklet that is just full of negative content aimed at other schools sounds like one of the more Southern things imaginable.

I would think MSU would be the last to do this. Dantonio has the perception of very high integrity, much higher than that of Crazy Jim, Urban, or James Franklin. I'm not a MSU fan, but I'm not blinded by the fact that they have been beating UM's ass for years either. My money is James Franklin is the guy most likely to pull shit like this.

On an unrelated note - Mods, Roadkill is an OSU troll.  See his posting history:

"Maybe we can get a few of our own 4 stars to actually sign before Urban decides he wants them too."

"It sometimes seems that Urban Liar is a wizard practicing some kind of black magic. I've never seen a guy be able to consistently snatch top recruits away from other commitments in mid January. It's uncanny, damn it."

"I thought Walker was way overrated back when he was committed to 0SU. Guess that's my way of saying that i'm not shocked that he fell. What pisses me off though, is the fact that the RB that OSU signed in Walker's place (Williams I think) ended up 50 some spots ahead of Walker in the final ranking. Urban pisses me off.

"As of right now, i'm going to stick with 247sports and their crystal ball that has Fuller something like 88% to the Buckeyes."

"Every time I see that shrug I picture Bosa's big ass wreaking havoc in our backfield. It's agonizing."

"seem to be doing fine on their own (at least in Meyer's case) without having to go on a smear campaign against Michigan."

I'm pumped that Jim is going to land such a talented class. The only reservation I have is that the talent gap between us and the turds down south was glaring going into the offseason. OSU pulling in another talented class is doing us no favors, but I trust Harbaugh.... It's like those f*ckers are just reloading down there though.

"When he mentions OSU he has a sneaky smirk on his face. Also, I heard that he featured a pic of himself in a Buckeye uniform along with Haskins as his official Twitter pic... Those two (Hardman and Haskins) have gotten to be pretty tight in the last several weeks. I still think Hardman goes to GA, but if I had to bet on a "surprise" school for him - It would be OSU unfortunately."

"I was comparing our class to OSU's and the average start ratings are similar between the two, but it appears that OSU's class holds alot of explosive talent. I watched a little bit of tape on Austin Mack and the Victor kid - Both look like freakishly good WR's, possibly to the point where (Mack in particular) may have warranted a 5th star. The RB they stole from Wisconsin after Walker flipped to us looks really good. His change of direction and acceleration is off the charts."

"Of course Harbaugh isn't going to take the criticism sitting down"... Have you ever seen how he acts when a flag is thrown on our boys in a game?"

"Even with Gary, we won't have anywhere near the #1 class... We need Gary to keep us from falling below #8."

"We don't seem to mind when the media is busting on Meyer or Saban, do we?"

"Swenson got fucked over.  He was a long time Michigan commit that, against his wishes, didn't make into the recruiting class. Just because he landed at a more currently successful program doesn't mean he wasn't screwed out of playing at his dream school."

"For years we've touted Michigan as 'classier than thou'. Does the phrase "The Michigan Way" ring a bell with anybody? This underhand recruiting practice is forcing the fans to either a) Make excuses for it, or b.) say, "welp, that's what being competitive is going to cost"... We can't have it both ways."

"Technically, a bachelor degree from any other big time D1 school would carry similar value as to that of one from Michigan."

" I find it ironic that you feature a picture of a rival coach insinuating that he's a liar, cheater and a thief. While at the same time defending Harbaugh's (alleged) action with sarcasm.

"But I did catch this little tidbit last night... Don't know how solid the "source" is, but i'll post it in case somebody else has additional infor that could either confirm or disprove. 'I heard from a source in AA that Gary got into two separate "heated discussions" with a current Wolverine player, the second of which almost came to blows. Obviously, Michigan is keeping this information close to the vest and would likely deny it if ever questioned about it. He may still end up at UM, but this is certainly something to keep an eye on.' Do with that mess as you will."

embarrassed he wasn't found out sooner. Glad somebody (Stu) found him out. Now that he is out of the closet it would be nice to blindside him and turn him into Roadkill. Thats a butteye for ya so full of them selves because they beat up on Hoke and RR like we beat up on Cooper. Except we beat Cooper so bad it was worse than what we are going through these last ten years at least Hoke actually beat them.

And sheep are, like... roadkill right? Was that the direction we were going there?

How in the Hell can someone spend that much time and effort on another team's blog trying to act like they're a fan when they really support their rival?

Who does that?!?!

And on a related note, that was quite an effort by Stu to out him. Kudos and where do you find the time, Sir?

Usually, when I am driving by on the road, I don't really stop to notice the roadkill admittedly, but once it is pointed out to me, yeah, that was some pretty professional concern trolling / straight trolling in those comments. The problem has been addressed and everyone may traverse the road freely, if you will, for the time being.

I can't put sparty above the buckaroos when it comes to the title for most insufferable fanbase in the world.

Michigan content dominates that website and gets the most clicks and replies.

My honest question is why even go to 11 warriors? Did you expect to see them say great things about how Harbaugh is certainly making up ground quickly etc.? Even if a few fans over there kept it real they would get bashed. Similar to if I stated how well Urban has done since he has been there. It is true sad as it is but noone hear wants to talk about that nor should they. I say ignore them but thats just me.

Knowing I shouldn't and now I am regretting it. As I mentioned below, I am from Ohio and it makes my blood boil when I have to hear those arrogant bastards talk like they have won the last 9 out of 10 championships. I can't wait until we begin to start winning in this rivalry again. It needs to start this year. Go Blue!

In that link is the board calling a supposed troll out who was defending Harbaugh. The supposed troll said he had 2 degrees from OSU and began defending his fandom. If he is not a troll, could you even imagine defending your fandom to those idiots? WOW!

Picture a time15 years in the future where we have won 13 of 15 vs osu and 2 NC... how will we act towards them? Becuase that is their present...

My guess is by then we'd be extremely disinterested, not dedicating multiple threads per day about how heinous their new coach is - but that difference in level of hatred is kind of symbolic of all our "rivalries", isn't it?!

On a Michigan board that seems to exuberating confidence in Meyer. My question would be then, why would you even be commenting so much on a rivals blog if you believe you have the greatest talent and best coach. I live in Ohio and it is amazing to me how much quieter the Buckeyes have become. By no means am I saying they are scared to death, but now they know Brady Hoke and Rich Rodriguez are not walking out of that tunnel with our team. Now it is JMFH. Go Blue!

I guess I will never understand trolls. Specifically sparty and osu these days. I guess we should be proud that two teams that have won or been in the playoff recently are still feeling so inferior they feel the need to troll Michigan. Would anyone on here troll them if they had been as bad as some of the teams we have fielded in years previous to Harbaugh? Or would you be too busy basking in your own teams playoff success? Trolls please keep trolling.I smile every time I know you took the time to talk Michigan the winningest team of all time. (In response to stu daco)

in the last 14 games michigan is 7-7 against msu. save for the luckiest play in the history of the series it would be 8-6 in favor of michigan. it wasnt that long ago osu went thru a 15 game stretch against michigan where they only won 4 games. michigan won 9 straight against penn state.

of course the trolls are happy. but they will learn "all" the games count, not just the most recent ones. enjoy while you can, it always changes.

Kinda funny when people compare kids decommiting from programs to coaches pulling scholarships from players. The argument you get is that coaches are "grown men and should know better"

Well these same "grown men" are going into these kids homes and telling their families 80% bullshit: Can you really negative recruit a kid to any great university? "Ugh their helmets suck" "They have more dudes than chicks on campus"

But to manipulate and lie about a coach, or a program is lame.

Sell your program, it's attributes and advantages, no need to  bag on other programs.

If other programs are doing shitty things then that will describe whom they are all by itself.

Before we cast stones, Michigan also did a pretty nasty negative recruiting job on that flyer they sent to Austin Mack about the OSU wide receivers coach.
