Pallacanestro Mantovana vs. Michigan University

Get LochDawg on the case.  What we have here is a failure to brand properly:

Stings vs Michigan, show assicurato per il primo test dei mantovani

It's been nine years since I used Fast and Easy Italian to prep for my trip to Rome, Sorrento, and Capri, so my Italian is a little arrugginito, but I like to think it means that spectators are assured that they will first be tested on whether they think Mantovani was a god.  Also, there may be childcare, but certainly no mancare available at the arena.  The Stings website, where we can learn that their roster includes a guy whose position is Play Maker.  Paging Mike Valenti.

what's really going to sting are the Michigan lawyers DB is sending for using the wrong M logo on the promotion material

I'd focus on "Michigan

I'd focus on "Michigan University" first, but then again, I'm not the AD.

awful

But boy did Dave Brandon get that right.  I hate that 'M'.  I always hated it.  It's as if we were afraid someone would look at our classic 'M' and think, "Must be Missouri," a problem solved by ceding what is clearly our ground with a sheepish little sign ("No, wait, says it right there -- it's Michigan.")  And the point of the M comes all the way down to the bottom as a ridiculous accommodation of that box -- the worst.

If nothing else, I will remember Dave Brandon as the man who freed us from that M.

GLI?

My Italian doesn't go much beyond the menu items, but does that "GLI" mean that the Pallacanestro Mantovana Stings will be playing in the Great Lakes Invitational this season?

Sad that I actually know

That non mancare means not to be missed. And that I learned it using chrome's translate function after watching this.

Damn, that was dramatic.

I expected John Belein to come over the crest of a hill on a Sherman tank like General Patton.

That press release says this

That press release says this is the first "friendly" for the Stings in preparation for their 2014-15 season, so this may not be a well-oiled machine that Michigan is facing. They've also just added to their roster "Italian-American" Ryan Amoroso, who according to Wikipedia

left Marquette after arguing with then coach Tom Crean about the amount of time he spent playing poker online.

He then transferred to San Diego State, playing for Steve Fisher, before playing pro ball in Iceland. Interesting resume.

I like how Romance languages

I like how Romance languages are so similar.  I've never learned Italian but I took French, and it's close enough (at least in writing) that I think I can get the gist of that press release.

It looks like it says that we won both the regular season and B1G tourney last year - eh, close enough.

Does this say that we are the most watched college basketball program on TV?  ("L’Università di Michigan conta 45.000 studenti e le partite giocate dal Men’s Basketball Team sono le più viste della NCAA nelle TV americane")

A little more info

"Tomorrow, Friday, August 22 at 19.00, the Stings face the first friendly of the 2014/15 pre-season preparation. For the occasion, the opponent of Mantua will be nothing less than the men's team of the prestigious American University of Michigan.
For the yellow-blue USA will be the last leg of the tour in Italy who have taken on August 17 in Rome, then moving 19 and 20 in Vicenza, and will end Friday 22 to Poggio Rusco in the only match of the Lombard Michigan Wolverines.
The game will be filmed by cameras Sportitalia and then transmitted on the same channel deferred.

Among the ranks of Mantua will add the Italian-American Ryan Amoroso, who arrived in Italy in the late morning today.
On the occasion of the match tomorrow night at the Sports Palace of Poggio Rusco will be able to subscribe to the Championship 2014/15 of Stings.
There will also be a corner merchandising and Stings College Basketball Tour.

Michigan is simply one of the best and most constant teams in the history of NCAA Division I as demonstrated by the results obtained in the last two years under the guidance of Coach John Beilein: Final NCAA Tournament in 2013 and victory in the Big Ten (regular season and tournament) with reaching the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
The University of Michigan has 45,000 students and the matches played by the Men's Basketball team are the most watched American TV in the NCAA.
Numerous college athletes have also landed in the NBA, the last one was Jordan Morgan called to participate in the Summer League in Las Vegas with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Another player in the spotlight is Caris LeVert, 1st choice next to the NBA Draft, which the public will be able to see Mantua play tomorrow night. Along with the latter, even Zak Irvin gave the show in friendlies earlier in Vicenza; the young guard has an average of 42% in the three-point shot.

The Basketball Valance would like to thank the group of College Basketball Tour who has worked with us in order to better organize the spectacular sporting event between Stings and Wolverines. College Basketball Ball Tour is a partnership program that friendly matches between teams in the American College visit to Italy in the summer, all militants in the NCAA Div 1, organized in important locations on the peninsula.

The event not to be missed is therefore for Friday evening at 19.00, at the Palace of Poggio Rusco, via Giuseppe Garibaldi, to offer free admission. "

Per Dylan of UMhoops

"The Stings have recently signed several players with more experience including Aristide Lande, a power forward loaned from top Italian club Virtus Bologna and who played with Italy’s U20 Gold Medal team in 2013, Italian-American center Ryan Amoroso, who averaged 15.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game last season, and Riccardo Moraschini, an Italian international who played for Virtus Roma (the team that just signed Jordan Morgan) last season, and Robert Fultz, a 32 year old guard with years of experience.

One of the biggest challenges for Michigan will be battling against Mantova’s leader in the front, Johndre Jefferson. Jefferson graduated from South Carolina in 2011 and while he only averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds per game in college, he’s blossomed in Italy. He’s 6-foot-10 and averaged 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, shooting 60% from the floor.

Jefferson’s size, experience and athleticism should give Michigan’s frontline all it can handle overseas. "  --Dylan, umhoops.comD
