I picked up a bike, and went out to buy a helmet and lock. While waiting in line to pay for the goods, it struck me that I should paint my helmet. What to paint on it, you ask? Obviously, the winged helmet design! I'm guessing that there are some folks around these parts who have at least thought about doing this; I wanted to hear about what was the best way to do it.
Starting with a black helmet: I figured I would tape up the vents, such that the styrofoam is covered (I think most solvent-based paints would pretty much destroy styrofoam), tape up the yellow-to-be part, and apply navy blue spray paint on top... let it dry, then tape up what I just painted and spray the wings on. Or just spray the whole thing blue, then paint the yellow wings on top. Then top it off with some sort of clear paint or shellac or lacquer or something like that.
I did a similar thing with a hard hat years ago; in fact I still have it sitting in my room at my parents' house. I love that thing. It was easier then, since its a hard hat and has no vents, and it was already yellow.
So, what do you think would be the best way to go about doing this?

the yellow helmet stripe set on ebay before.
