Packard Pub--How is it when not the Spring Game?

Submitted by Happyshooter on

After the game, which I still am not ready to post about, we went to the Packard Pub for the first time.

It looks nice, good beer selection, a little crowded but not crazy tight.

The service was very poor. The food took over an hour, and then it was cold and we sent it back. You had to do everything but pout it yourself to get refills.

Is it always like that or did the bar understaff?

I was really looking forward to having a nice place within a short walk of the games, and now I am not sure there is one.

I went there last night, and it was great. Friendly service, the food came fast, and the BACON ON MY SANDWICH WAS SUPER CRISPY. Sorry for the caps lock overload, but that almost never happens with bacon at restaurants. I really enjoyed it.

On the downside, though, the beer was a bit pricey. Frankly, I'm pretty sure that Quickie Burger has some of the cheapest beer around. Not sure there are too many places that sell $1 pints of Sam Adams.

You need to give a new restaurant/bar a few months before it hits its stride. Just give it sometime, I'm sure it will be fine by the time football season comes along.

I agree with your analysis as I was also there after the spring game. It appeared they only had 2 servers and one bartender working. I was expecting a lot more from the place.

I've had similar experiences there with the food and service, but I still really like the atmosphere and location. I'm willing to cut them some slack since they are new and have been nothing but friendly. One of the first nights it was open, I struck up a conversation with the owner's cousin (i think it's his cousin) who works security. He said this first few weeks is kind of a trial to get a feel for everything and then over the summer they can iron the kinks out when it'll be much less busy and then be full force awesome come fall. They plan on football Saturdays being a big deal too, opening early and serving breakfast among other things.

The atmosphere is great, I love the TV placement and the huge tables. The place is super overpriced, even for Ann Arbor, and it takes forever to get service, both at the bar and at your table. I really hope they do work out the kinks over the summer. The best thing they have going for them is the location.

Cottage Inn on William (the restaurant)

Food is awesome, and fairly priced. You can drink pretty cheap at happy hour, and they have a good selection of beers.
