Pack your bags for Tempe
It's official. Do they even have to play out the season at this point?

The East division.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
"Champions of the East" won't rhyme with "Leaders and best."
August 11th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
Yes, this will confuse some people into thinking Victors is about the Big East. But it will go with the mascot, right?

Thank you for not supplying any information on what you are linking us to. Very informative post.
August 11th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
Right...
Because what part of 'Insight Bowl, here we come' is misleading?
I know it is skirting the title rule on here, but it is not irreverent to it. Deal with it Betty.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Well in your post you could at least say "here is rivals bowl game breakdown.". W
August 11th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
I'm sure the 5 seconds it took to click on the link & see what it was were just terrible. What did you think the OP meant by "Insight Bowl here we come?" The amount of complaining over thread titles, links, etc. on this board if ridiculous sometimes.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
How do I know if I want to click on the link if no one tells me what it's about? Generally a short description of wtf you're talking about is both expected and appreciated.
August 11th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
I'll give you a hint. It's animal porn.
August 12th, 2011 at 1:13 AM ^
Well in that case he should have included NSFW
August 11th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
I have no problem with the title I would just appreciate it if the poster could tell me who wrote or where the information and link is from. I don't think that is too much to ask for.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
I like to think of it as a fun little ride, where you may not know where you're going, but you know you're gonna like it when you get there...
On a serious note, the bottom left corner supplies you with a website address to preview the link you are about to click. I'm not being trying to be a jerk about it, just wanted to let you know that in case you didn't already come to that conclusion.
On a side note, I love how an undiscussed, fairly relevant, and well intentioned topic is buried by a stupid meta argument. I guess I have been around the block enough times around here to know that such is life at MGoBlog...
In any case, I digress to the peanut gallery. The link is now much more informative.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
Thank you, see now everyone can greatly enjoy your well intentioned yet poorly posted link ad everyone is happy.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:42 PM ^
Which, to be fair, is now extremely well posted. I look forward to to your edification in the art of the hyperlink in any and all additional posts that I may create.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
Correct, it is now the most informative link i have ever seen.
August 11th, 2011 at 7:58 PM ^
maybe a little deductive resoning?
August 11th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
Okay, I deduced that the OP is like THE_KNOWLEDGE and foresees the future.
Seriously? No amount of deductive reasoning is going to get me from "Looks like we're going to the Insight Bowl" to an article about Rivals' bowl predictions. I didn't even know they did that this early in the year. Completely idiotic. Occam's Razor tells me it's much more likely OP is talking out his ass.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
Occam's Razor also tells me that you spent way too much time trying to evaluate the most likely explanation for that link.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:25 PM ^
That... is probably true.
August 11th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
That means Preparation H is the best thing for laryngitis, right? We need to give him Imodium so he'll be quiet?
August 11th, 2011 at 7:59 PM ^
Is there anything more useless and guarenteed to be wrong than bowl projections before the season has even started? Maybe the "last four out" of the bracketology done before the season starts but it's close.
Actually that's a good question. What IS more absolutely, 100% assured to be wrong than these?
August 11th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
Well, for many of the bowls, predicting them is no different than predicting order of conference finish.
In the Big Ten for example, the conference champ goes to the Rose, predicting a second BCS bowl team seems reasonable. Would end up in the Fiesta, Sugar, or Orange but which one is kind of a toss up. After than, the BIG bowls go in order of conference finish for the most part, with bowl selection committees having some power.
I'm not saying that pre-season bowl pick are useful in any way. I'm just saying that they are not THAT different from simply selecting the conference pecking order.
August 11th, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
if your memory works like my memory, you might recall that last year even after our conference finish had been determined our bowl site had not been determined. I believe that there was ambiguity about location and opponent.
Additionally, after the bowls I believe that I recall wishing that we had played any of our other possible opponents in any other possible location.
Because that might have made a difference.
But most likely not.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
I'm not surprised Rivals went with a safe pick for Michigan. Not too high, not too low.
OT: For some reason whenever I play NCAA 12, it seems like Michigan always faces Missouri in the Insight Bowl. It happened two years in a row!
August 11th, 2011 at 8:04 PM ^
there was a lot of chatter about that happening last season too. I remember thinking "Sweet! now instead of getting torn apart by Blaine Gabbert, we'll get Chris Relf!" That worked out well.

to the Capital One Bowl vs Ga.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
I think we should pack our bags from Pasadena.
Edit: My bad. I meant for Pasadena
August 11th, 2011 at 8:49 PM ^
But if you edited it, why didn't you just change "from" to "for"?
August 11th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
They have 2/3rds of our conference pencilled in for a bowl game. Have we ever had 8 teams in a bowl? Granted, Nebraska.
August 11th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
There are 9 Big Ten teams on the list.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
If defense is average this year, can we win 10 games?
August 11th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
But what if the offense is only average as well?
August 11th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
What if special teams is average? I'll do cartwheels.
August 11th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
Actually, special teams was about average over the last 3 years
August 11th, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
4 for 14 is not average.
August 11th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
4for14 is not the past three years
August 12th, 2011 at 11:03 AM ^
Year | Net Punting | Punt Return | Kickoff Return |
2008 | 5 (39.34) | 64 (8.62) | 56 (21.44) |
2009 | 3 (40.93) | 62 (8.67) | 23 (23.80) |
2010 | 69 (36.07) | 67 (7.43) | 68 (21.44) |
2008 | 10-15 |
2009 | 11-15 |
2010 | 4-14 |
I didn't have rankings for field goals, but it seems like the first two years were, 2008=eh, 2009=pretty alright and 2010=derp.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
We'll have an average record?

August 11th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
If I remember correctly, SI or some other reputable sports news institute had UM slotted to play Mizzou in the Insight Bowl last year. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
August 11th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
I'm torn...I want us to destroy and go to a great bowl, but going to the Insight bowl would work out perfectly as my girlfriend lives in Chandler.
Boo.

<br>Seriously, way too early. I want the job of an online sports reporter.
August 12th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
Yes.
You know it, I know it, even they know it. The author acknowledges that it is premature but it does give us something to talk about, doesn't it?
ed: Or at least gave us one of the most epic and deliciously sarcastic meta arguments I've seen in awhile.
