Oversigning in Hoops?

Submitted by winterblue75 on

Is there such a thing as oversigning in college basketball? St. Johns has 9, yes 9 commits for 2011. Now not all have signed LOI's, but those that haven't are still listed as solid verbals. 9 incoming freshman just doesn't sound right.

theyll nosedive next year.  If the recent college basketball trend has taught us anything, that is the trend that began after the rule that stipulated everyone had to go to college one year before entering the draft, its that freshman can have a huge impact on a college basketball team.  As of now, St. Johns has 5 4-star recruits signed to LOI's, four of whom are ranked in the top 21 of their positions.  They also have another 4 star and a 5 star (the number 2 ranked center overall) who have yet to sign their LOIs.  St. Johns could be a major player next season.

The majority of those impact freshman are the ones that have the chance to jump to the NBA right from high school but go to colllege for a year.  None of St. johns recurits are close to that.

Not saying they couldn't be a major player next season, but your reasoning is flawed.

its there...not widespread, but there...Calipari is a master of it...the year he came to Kentucky, it was reported that a number of players had "left" the term under very ambigous terms and were not too happy about it...sorry, but the source escapes me at the moment

This seems like a really easy thing to research before you post a thread about St. John's oversigning...which they are not.
