Overnight parking in Pioneer lot?

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on
Does anyone know the repercussions of leaving a car parked in the Pioneer lot overnight after a game? I would assume the car would either be ticketed or towed, but does anyone know from personal experience?

Letting people do so without penalty seems like a smart way to curtail drinking and driving, but I don't see the governing bodies passing up on this opportunity to generate revenue.

Any help is appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is going to be a pep rally on friday night at the diag. I heard before the season start they were going to have one at around six pm september 9. I was just wanting to know for sure before I make the drive. Thanks and sorry for hijacking your thread.

There are some garages around the medical canter (Catherine Street) that are free all weekend. It's a bit farther of a walk, but it may be an option.

But I believe its towed.  I was even student teaching there and they would announce over the loudspeakers that if you left your car it would be towed.

I had a teacher's parking pass and was told it would make no difference.

A private company has the rights to the Pioneer Lot from the end of the Pioneer football game to the end of the Michigan game and they made it clear that the lot will be cleared.

Also, they are waiting for the lot to clear after the Pioneer game before they allow any RV's into the field (RV's are the only ones allowed to overnight). Point being that this RV company is going to be staffing that lot right after the Pioneer game and making sure its clear.

put your spare in the "pick up" vehicle, then come back next day and change the tire.  It'll look like you didn't have a spare.  It might work.

Edit: Just wanted to add...this isn't something I would do myself.  Never had the balls or stomach for anything like that, but it seems like they'd give you a break.  Then again in the dark, they may not even notice the flat.  They most likely wouldn't get around to towing until Sunday though.

I assume the OP is talking about leaving the vehicle there Saturday night, not Friday after the Pioneer game.  I was wondering the same thing myself.

I would be prepared for some of the more stringent parking enforcement you've ever seen on Saturday.  Word on the street is that the noon opening will be rigidly adhered to, and Ann Arbor Police will not be allowing anybody to line up early for anything, golf course, Pioneer, AD lots, etc. inclusive.  I'm assuming their rules for after the game (2 hours, if memory serves) will be similarly enforced.  Even though Pioneer isn't University-controlled, it seems the University is trying to roll them in with whatever their policies are going to be.

Last weekend was the most anal I've ever seen the University parking enforcement (or, rather, the parking company the University puts in Event Staff polos to patrol their lots), and they even told us they were being a bit more relaxed compared to next week.  So take that for what it's worth.

I would recommend not leaving anything to chance in this regard.  Find yourself a University lot or structure somewhere on Central Campus and walk down to the game if you think you're going to want to leave a car overnight.  I've parked a few times for games in the lots over by the Nursing School, as well as the Blue Lot at the end of Thayer.  It's not that bad of a walk, probably only about a half hour or so, and if you plan on eating after the game, it's where you're going to probably be near anyway.

Surface lots and garages (there are several that are a 30-45 minute walk from the stadium) are your best best. Unless you've got an RV,  your car will be removed from the Pioneer lot if you leave it there overnight. Another good idea as long as you see no "Residential Permit" signs is to park in a neighborhood near where you plan on staying.

fyi in regards to the pioneer opening time. I was told the pioneer was asked to tell their customers not to arrive till noon, but they will have staff their at their normal time of 6:30 in case anyone wants to park.
