Actually, there's no consensus on that; it's more a stylistic preference than anything else. I personally don't like it because it looks weird.
I'll stick with the lower case "h" for him.
At least until he stops watching people touch themselves.
If the helmets don't get all scratched up like cheap kids toys, ill be happy.
Branding. I can't stand the way our helmets look on national tv when the paint comes off.
SMH...I Give up. You win dave you win. But, I hatechu.
It's not about whether they look good or not. The question is: Do they look like Michigan Football?
The answer is no.
(BTW- I'm even willing to tolerate this once a year, but anything more is a clown show)
How far are we now from a black alternate?
Tune in to next year's Notre Dame night game. You'll love the WOW moment of a stadium-wide Black Out as the team runs out of the tunnel in our black jerseys and back and maize chrome-finished helmets.
helmets are cool, unis are ugh. does tradition count for anything anymore, or do we all now have to be like oregon?
Helmet I can live with. Jersey makes me want to rip my own eyes out.
I'll admit it: I really like the helmets.
The jerseys would make good kindling for the torches for the march to drive Brandon out of the ADs office though. We are getting dangerously close to Nike COMBATZ/Euro-soccer clown costumes
We have some of the best and most simple / understated uniforms in all of sports. Why can't we wear them?
Helmets not so bad, jerseys are bad but something I noticed before, and it may be something small, is the "Riddel" on the helmets in red. I know the front one usually has MICHIGAN but the back stays with the red "Riddel", can that be changed to blue? Is there something saying it can't be changed from red?
Sadly for the helmet, the Riddell logo is their corporate trademark and it is officially red, although one wonders if they would make an exception for teams now and again, as it does stand out for some reason with the matte look. That being said, the matte look for the helmets is actually pretty slick, in my opinion.
As for the jersey, as others have said, the blue numbers would improve this some, and seeing the back fo the jersey sells me on the notion that blue numbers would at least make this better but it wouldn't do enough to change my opinion that this is a jersey merely "because we can" from the department. Not a fan.
I know there was a discussion in another thread a couple days ago on brand equity, and how alternative uniforms, if overdone, can start harming this valuable resource. For a brand with the potential market of Michigan and the iconic block "M" that goes with it, perhaps very sadly, it takes a lot of alternive jerseys before visible harm is done to brand equity.
Is this why I keep getting all the "Bad Idea T-Shirts" ads when I come to mgoblog?
Is being open to the idea of alternate uniforms but hating ugly ones like this a possible position for me to take here? If so, sign me up for that one.
Shouldn't it be special "uniform"? It misses the point of having uniforms to change them multiple times in a year. Just pick a home and away and go with it, otherwise they're just outfits.
why we would wear these if we are the home team.
I really like the helmets, i would be curious to see what the hemets would look like with the maize as a matted finish also.
Why bother with all the pomp and circumstance? Just donate the jerseys to third world kids and call it a day.
... baby. I could give a rat's ass about anything else.
I LOVE the helmets. I think the uniform is okay.
says Michigan is his top team because of their bowl uniforms. Will visit tomorrow
It's a cool, modern spin on the uni. We don't always have to look in the rear view mirror at the way things "used to be". It's the helmet that's iconic, not the jersey.
Players nowadays like the alternate looks. The game is about them, not us fans.
My scale of recent alternates (tolerable to unforgivably bad):
11 ND (UTL)
This one is close to tolerable because of the helmets, but just a little too uniformz for my taste due to the numbers.
At this point I'm just so tired of all this. I could maybe understand one alternate uni a year, but even that's still too much for me.
But what, we're up to like 6 or 7 different Jerseys in the last 2 years? That's bullshit.
I'm sick of the fact that if we schedule a big game (hello UTL2) there's like a 95% chance we're going to bust out something piss ugly for the game "For the WOW experience".
it's hideous. The maize numbers make it look like a cheap knockoff from Walmart. I'm really not opposed to alternate uniforms (UTL was pretty good) but they always looks so cheap and tacky. Nice job Dave Brandon.
B1G, Addidas, Riddell, Outback, M... They really are starting to look like NASCAR uni's
We get highlighter yellow from these clowns instead of maize, so we shouldn't be surprised they can't find their own asses in the dark with two hands and a flashlight.
Hell, why not some neon blinking lights embedded in the helmet? It's the holiday season after all.
Dear Dave Brandon,
Thanks for making my alma mater's football experience no different than that of every other team out there. Being able to cling to things like tradition and a uniform that has barely changed since the late 1930s were really starting to kill my buzz. Now if you could please eliminate the band in favor of the latest JOCK JAMZ CD, throw a furry mascot on the sidelines, and make sure our video boards and sidelines are graced with enough Domino's Pizza, PNC Bank, and General Motors ads to have me ordering their products in my sleep, you'll be able to convince the next generation of kids to be Michigan fans. They won't have to defeat all odds like the hundreds of thousands of other Michigan fans out there who had to suffer through all that tradition in order to sit through a football game. I can't wait until I walk through the gates of DOW Chemical Michigan Stadium to watch my beloved Bell Tire Michigan Wolverines play. I'll certainly say "wow" for you.
Thank you for not saying "no" to the hallucinigenic ravings of a 23-year-old Adidas designer from the Netherlands who has never watched a Michigan football game in his life. The next shiny athletics building and 17-year-old running back recruit are totally worth it.
This is Michigan (TM).*

God Bless You young man and all your words!
You should actually email this to Brandon. Back in the early days of his tenure he would respond to most emails. Don't know if he still does. I couldn't find his email address in the campus directory,
We also have special GLI hockey jersey's
For the first ever the product on the ice performs as bad as it looks.
reward to the guys. Heck, let the seniors pick them or whatever.
Prefer the traditional look for regular season as a symbol of "Michigan has historically and will continually focus on winning with straightforward, no BS football.". That's the brand essence.
Wake me up when they try to mess with the home uniform again. Never really liked any of the away jerseys so might as well keep trying to find something that looks good.
When you start messing around with the uniform (which has traditionally been the primary brand represenatation), you take away from the most distintive recognition of your brand. Once that happens, the other elements become more apparent, making your brand less memorable.
A good analogy is the Coke bottle. They can put whatever they want on the bottle (and they have) as long as the shape of the bottle stays the same you know it is Coke.
So when you see this, you know it is Michigan and remember Michigan:
When you see the uni's above the individual parts become more recognizable because you have lost the primary base design. Thus you are more likely to focus on the following:
Adidas: 8 logos (1 jersey, 1 pants, 1 each wristband x 2, 1 each sock x 2, 1 each shoe x 2)
B1G: 1 logo (jersey)
Outback Bowl: 1 logo (jersey)
Riddell: 1 logo (helmet)
Michigan: 2 logos (1 block M on the pants, and the winged helmet)
The Michigan athletic dep'ts strategy sure doesn't follow most traditional or new brand philosophies.
It could be worse.
...and that is not a dare, Mr. Brandon.
The blue shoulders are OK, but the numbers look cheap. Maybe they'll be better on.
finds out the blue version is for UTL part 2
we wear something like this. Looks like East Keokuk State. Hind-end ugly.
They're not "special uniforms". You've tried this clown shit for every single meaningful game we've played in the past two years. Anybody who watches Michigan on national-stage games has seen FIVE different uniforms in the past two years. That's not special, that's a mother-effing sideshow. This makes no economic sense (nobody's running out to buy these pieces of horseshit), no branding sense, no traditional sense, and no fan-support sense. In short, you, Dave Brandon, are a moron. Please go back to selling pizzas and leave our freaking football tradition alone.
And by the way I hate your pizza too.
Love matte helmets. The jerseys look horrible.
I hope so hard that there's a front page poll asking readers what they think of these. These things are the. worst.
