Outback Bowl Package?
I'd like to attend the Bowl game. I have never gone to a Michigan Bowl game! (Sorry!)
Any thoughts or information regarding how to acquire a Bowl package which would hopefully include airfare, tickets, large amounts of beer, lodging etc.
Or is there a better, cheaper way?
Thank you!

Is Michigan the Home or Away team? Bowl site already has tickets listed but no news on which side we are on.

I think last time we were in the Outback bowl we were home but Brandon made us wear his dumb alternative away jerseys

they charge ridiculous fees on everything. You are literally the first person I have ever seen say to take a spirit airlines flight

I feel bad for you if you are not flying southwest. Only way I travel to Tampa and RSW

And it has nothing to do with the fees.
The most degrading flying experience I've ever had. Less legroom than any other carrier...which is saying a lot. The back of every single seat was shiny. Thought maybe it was a sign of wear and tear. Turned out it was grease from foreheads/hair. The only way to "sleep" on a Spirit plane is by leaning on the seat in front of you.

The last time I flew Spirit was on a redeye from LAX to DTW. It was horrible. No leg room and the guy in front of me kept picking at his scalp and flicking off the flakes of skin on the seat next to him. I almost threw up.

Are seats still optional on some Spirit flights? Last time I used Spirit, I opted for their standing-room-only rate that didn't cost much more than a New York City subway ride.

Stay near the beach, Clearwater or St. Pete Beach. Have some fun and sun, and football. Granted, it's New years so the beaches will be expensive but I would go out of my way to avoid south Tampa, loathe the place.

Clearwater and Clearwater Beach are different areas.
Clearwater is where the GIGANTIC Scientology Center is (no comment, just a fact); across the bridge is Clearwater Beach. If you are going for the weekend, Clearwater Beach is actually really a great beach. There is a standard beach town row of hotels along the beach, a few of them are pretty new and REALLY nice. There are also several nice hotels in nearby Sand Key. The only issue is beachfront traffic can be a pain in the ass (airport to beach 30-60 minutes depending on traffic, but the drive is very easy).
I am reasonably sure last time UM was at the Outback Bowl there was a game event held at Clerawater Beach with the band, cheerleaders, etc.
My virtually worthless advice:
If you're just going to the game, or not renting a car, staying closer to the stadium and airport make sense.
If you're going to be there for a few days, and renting a car, stay somewhere by the beach.

We're going to be down in Redington Shores. I know the area pretty well and we usually uber to St Pete for going out to bars. Is there a good bar scene in Clearwater/Clearwater Beach? I have drivne through in daytime but haven't seen anything that looks like a bar scene.

For sunny days drinking at beach bars, Clearwater or St Pete Beach are the places to go. As far as clubs, it would better in St Pete/Tampa but avoid Ybor.

a money grab. Plain and simple. Practice much more important than game, although I'm sure Harbaugh will play to win.

UM Alumni Association has bowl tickets, tailgate, air and hotel packages, etc.

Assuming you know someone with season tickets, I highly recommend doing this on your own. They will grab the tickets for you (assuming, of course, they aren't going) and with a little work on the computer(one round trip plan and choose about 5 different carriers) you'll get a damn good price on the flight. They'll also offer motels but again, shopping on your own will get your best deal.
Last year coming home from Mexico - don't always take my car - I hit Gerald R. Ford from Guadalajara and it hit 890 or something equally ridiculous. A few keystrokes later I was on a one-way to Chicago for 150.00, 5.00 for the blue line from O'Hare to Clinton, walked two blocks to Union Station, spent 30.00 on the train to Holland where I was picked up, all for less than 190.00. You can do a lot of stuff quickly knowing nothing more than the starting and ending points. Good luck. i was really hoping for a CA bowl.

If you do go to Ybor City, stay on 7th Avenue. You go to 8th you may be ok. Go past that, your asking for trouble

If you’re looking for a cool place to get a drink in Tampa, consider Ciros Speakeasy. You have to call or go online for a reservation so you can get the password, but it’s a blast and the drinks are very strong.

Ybor is not what it was like 15 years ago, even then it isn't what it was. :) St Pete, S. Tampa or Clearwater beach would provide plenty of fun.

Honestly--we stayed in Ybor for the 12/13 Outback Bowl and everybody we talked to mentioned that it was kind of scary but we had a blast and never had anything bad happen. We were early/mid 20s then so I can understand if older people don't want to stay in the crazy nightlife district but we never had an issue and loved it.

Live in S. Pasadena Fl. and use this airline that flys from Toldeo to St. Pete (PIA). Hope this helps out. Ferg's is the go to place in St. Pete that the M Alumni Club meets up, across the street from the ballyard.

I've used them once or twice without issue, and at least from my house, the 40-minute drive to Toledo to make the flight is worth the price of the ticket (which is usually pretty low). Good suggestion actually.

-I live in Clearwater and drive to Tampa all the time. I like Tampa, but it’s not really by the best beaches and the traffic in the entire Tampa Bay Area (Clearwater included) is bad during “snowbird” season. If traveling with Michigan fans is the motivation then I’d go through the University/Alumni Association, but if cost is a factor, doing the accommodations on your own would be cheaper.
