Alright, so we've OFFICIALLY eliminated (or they've eliminated us) in no particular order: Fitz, Peterson, Harbaugh (Jim), anyone else? As far as I can tell those are the only ones officially off the table.
This leaves us with a mind-boggling array of actual possibilities. Yes, some of these are off the wall, but I'm trying to get a comprehensive list of ppl that have in one credible way or another been tied to the job.

I miss the days when there were only 4-5 posts a day and even though they had 350 comments in each, things surprisingly flowed pretty well.

I miss the days when we won 9-10 games a year without fail and didn't have to talk about any of this. When you could post without people snarking at you b/c people have lost all patience with the program and now this search.
Those days are gone now. Seriously, we all need to exercise some patience and understanding. We all want the old days, but they're gone. Now we all want to know what's going to happen next. Some will wait quietly and some deal with it by trying to converse with fellow fans. .
Stay calm, we'll get through this.

Its time to freak out. Its time to accept that UM is no longer a player in elite college football. Its time to realize that the University with the most wins in college football is due to wins piled up in the first half of the last century.
This is no time for patience or understanding. Its a time for saddness and mourning. People have projected this frustration onto RichRod but its not about him. Its about the decline of UM football into mediocrity from a fictitious exhaulted state it never really inhabited.

You RR guys are unbelievable. RR turned UM football into a joke. Go back and look at the wins from, say, 1969 to the years BR(Before Rich Rod), Still Top ten, if not top five.
Michigan football had NOT fallen off into some netherland so you guys could justify the rape and pillage of UM football by RR. He simply was a terrible hire who was in WAY over his head.
He sucked, sucks, and will suck, and hopefully we'll do a Stalin on him and wipe his memory from UM football forever.And I'd like for you RR guys stop relegating Michigan football to near-Michigan State status so you can continue to blame everyone BUT Dick Rod for the state of the program. IfRodriguez was HALF the coach his leg-humpers here wish he was, he'd still have a job here.

Which is why we had been hovering in mediocrity even when we had talent (2006) and shrieked in terror at anything resembling a mobile QB. Or why there is nobody from the Lloyd Carr coaching tree worth much of anything as a coach according to the last 3 years and the open market. Obviously.
I don't know if you went to State but based on this post you'd fit right in.

RR had very little to work with. Mallett was gone in any case, and the disappearance of all the DBs was hardly his fault.

Apologies if you don't approve, but the fact is even Brian's posts have not been comprehensive WRT coaching choices. He admits as much in his last. I'm simply trying to consolidate all the discussion. Futile? Probably. Pointless? Likely. C'est la vie.

I don't have any quarrel with your post but a more informative title would be appreciated. Maybe something like: "An attempt to create a comprehensive list of coaching candidates." You can probably come up with something better but at least give us an idea of the topic.

I would love to see Drew Sharp coach Michigan with Rosenberg as his DC for one year. After the debacle they could never write another negative article about UM football coaching. Then I would like to see Brent Venables hired. He is defensive-minded, relatively young, has a good track record with his current job. There is always a risk in promoting a coordinator, but Venables has been around for a while and has a good mentor.

Yeah. Excellent mentor. OU gets talent but Stoops recruits type over star rating mostly because he'd get buried if he went toe to toe with Texas for every big star guy. He picks his battles.
Venables isn't awash in mega talent every year to do what he has done with that defense. He has a lot of experience doing everything a head coach would do with the way Stoops operates. He'd be a great choice. Those guys at Oklahoma are winners.

I think this list mostly falls into "another". Most of the guys on here are just names thrown out there. I would guestimate that unless something crazy happens with the "search", the only credible names out there are:
Gruden, Hoke, Miles and Patterson. I'm sure there may be others but of those people:
- Gruden has apparently talked about Michigan being his dream job and Twitter blew up about a possible interview yesterday.
- Hoke, well we already know why Weis-light is mentioned
- Miles for obvious reasons
- Patterson because according to Sam Webb, DB met with a couple candidates in Dallas yesterday, Miles and one other coach.
It seems like everyone else is just a list of coordinators that seem like they'll be on the top of anyone's coaching candidate lists.

It's probably going to be either Miles or Hoke, though I still do think that a youngish HC at a smaller program or big-time coordinator has a chance.

Brent Venables should be candidates 0 through 4, with Mullen filling the next 17 slots. Part of Rich Rod's downfall was his desire to placate the media rather than ignore or antagonize them. In his own words, he "wants to be liked." That's cool, and one of the reasons I liked him as a person, as I am the same way. We both seek approval. But we've learned the hard way that it's not a quality the Michigan coach can afford to have.
If you've ever seen Brent Venables, you know that he is a terrifying man carved from granite who gives approximately zero fucks. He's not just what we need; he's what we deserve. You will shut the fuck up and watch me coach this football team, he will say. Perhaps this time we will listen.

I really hope brandon interviews him, he could become one heck of a head coach. A young defensive minded coach is exactly what Michigan needs. He would need to hire a good/big name OC to ease the transition.

good young asst. coach/ Def coordinator. In his early 40's. With a good offensive coordinator he would be a good hire. IMO I know there is a lack of head coach experience but the positives outweigh the negatives for me anyways.
