OT:RIP Princess Lacey

Submitted by Franz Schubert on

The beautiful little angel that A. Payne became frinds with has passed away. This is profoundly sad and has brought me to tears. God bless Lacey and her loved ones.

RIP.

Wasn't she the one who was just recently at some of the tournament games and slam dunk competition? I guess she took a quick turn for the worse recently. Anyway, prayers to her family.

Very sad.  Yes, she made multiple cameos during Payne's dunks.  He gave her the ball to touch for good luck on his first monster throw-down (probably one of the best of the whole contest) and then she gave him a superman shirt in the third round.

She looked genuinely happy and excited to be there.

In spite all the vitriol between Michigan and Michigan State on the field of play, you can't help bit tip your hat to Payne and Michigan State for their support of this girl and her family.  It's a touching story, showing that there are things in life so much more important than sports.

RIP Lacey.

That's terrible news :-(

According to the Free Press, it happened around 3 AM. The message on her Instagram account was as follows:

Princess Lacey has achieved the ultimate victory. She now dances among angels.... The world is a better place because you were in it. Our hearts are broken. We love you Doll. Dance all night... Mommy and Daddy, Will, Mitchell, and Luke

Thoughts and condolences to the Holsworth family. Very sad indeed.

Has a human side. I followed this one. So terribly sad and unfair. Prayers to the family and to Mr. Payne as well. He and MSU brought her much joy in her young much too short life. God Bless Princess Lacey.

My thoughts and prayers are with Lacey's family and with Adreian Payne and the Spartan team that gave so much of themselves to make the last days of Lacey's life special.

Cancer sucks. Another young and promising life taken away. God bless Adrien Payne and the Spartan family for filling her last days with so much joy and happiness.

Tears won't bring her back...but I damn sure just shed them.  Bless her and her family.  Bless Payne for being a terrific human being.  He is a SPartan that I will root for indefinitely.  That little girl had more passion and personality than most adults.

That is absolutely brutal.  I have small daughter as well and can't even imagine how our family would cope.  Prayers for the family.

This is such sad news.  My heart breaks for the Holsworths, Adreian Payne, and the Spartan basketball program.

God bless you, Princess Lacey.  Never stop dancing.

I've recently lossed 3 Grandparents, 2 parents, and 1 dog, I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child.   My heart goes out to their family as they watched their daughter fight her whole entire life.  Stories like these are inspiring and at the same time incredibly painful.

God Bless her, her family and all of those who made her life worth fighting for.

I am actually crying. I feel so awful for her family and everyone who loved her. It's so hard to accept that children can die from cancer. Thankful every day for my son's health. Rest in peace princess!!

to this girls family, there can't be many worse things in life than losing a child. It is one of the most unfair things in this world. The fact that Payne was something positive in this girls life for a few years is an incredible story. That's how these athletes should give back, but the important thing is this sweet girl is in a better place, free from all pain. RIP Princess Lacey.

And this little girl seemed like an angel.  Thoughts and prayers to her family and the extended family on the MSU BB team.

Adrean Payne became a shining light in her brief life.

As sports fans we often get overzealous over any number of pointless "issues" that sometimes we gloss over some of the great moments.

As courageous as Lacey was in her fight against cancer Adriean Payne showed a lot of courage as well by opening his heart to a young lady. He did this knowing that that this could turn out the way it did were unfortunately high but he did it anyways when many his age and older would have kept their distance to minimize their own emotions. Fortunately Adriean Payne did not and helped provide Lacey some solace in the most difficult of times.

I really enjoyed the smile that he brought to her face and the smile she brought to his.

Thoughts go out to Laceys family and her extended Spartan family.

Its comforting to know how much joy Adreian Payne and the MSU BB program brought to her life. We can honor her memory by telling and showing someone in our personal lives just how much we love them. Life is short and precious. R.I.P Princess. :-(

that hearing this news would hit me as hard as it is.  I'm profoundly very sad to hear the news of her passing and hope that her family find comfort in that many people tried so hard to make her final years on this earth easier.

God Bless her and her family.

I'm sorry about all the things she won't get to see.  I guess I hadn't followed the story that closely, since she made so many appearances at MSU games lately I figured she must be doing better.  Ugh.

No matter what any of us think about Sparty on here, this is truly awful. So sad to see such a happy and beautiful girl leave this world, but at least she's in a better place. Condolences to her family and Adrian Payne on this tough time.

RIP Lacey!

I'm a father and a blind optimist, I guess that's what makes me a crazy Michigan fan. I thought for sure there would be a miraculous ending to this story. I thought we would see her recovering for sure and having a long life. This is hitting harder than I thought it would. I pray for her family and the Spartan basketball team. They must be taking this so hard after devoting so much time to her and her family. Going to be a long day...
