If by perennial bridesmaid you mean hall of fame quarterback that won four consecutive afc championships, beat cancer not once but twice, and is one of the best humans on the planet, you'd be right.

I love Harbaugh to death but Jim Kelly was a much better quarterback, it's not even close.

As someone who didn't know the story it sure sounds like Kelly is at fault. To retire because of how bad you're injured then to claim someone else isn't really getting hurt is pretty bush league.

That said, it's easy to see why 2 competitors came to blows over this. I like that Harbaugh wasn't upset that he hit Kelly, rather he was upset that he broke his hand.

is that unless you're Rougned Odor, closed-fist punching is dumb. Use the heel of your hand and your forearm near the elbows. Fingers are fragile.

At least I think that's the only lesson here. It's been a while since I listened to Kenny Rogers' Coward of the County but that was what I took away from it.

“I’ve heard he’s telling people I never hit him, but I don’t know why he would say that. I would assume he knew what happened, since we were both there..."

This one quote proves to me that was, indeed, Jim Harbaugh talking!  I can hear him say that now...  LMAO!!

“I broke the bone while hitting him,” Harbaugh told Albom. “I’ve heard he’s telling people I never hit him, but I don’t know why he would say that. I would assume he knew what happened, since we were both there. On the way to the elevator, I felt my hand swelling up immediately.”

Someone mentioned it above as well, but I also laughed here because this response is so very Jim Harbaugh. It pokes at Kelly and doesn't apologize in the slightest and at the same time describes the consequences suffered in the attempt. Actually, the entire account which he gave to Albom is something you can hear in Harbaugh's voice, which makes it incredibly entertaining and yes, entertaining at the expense of Jim Kelly.

As a man who has controlled his anger many times, I can say that I do not ever regret being the bigger man. But. It is satisfying beyond measure to punch someone who needs punching, and you don't want to go to your grave with that "I should have punched that asshole" voice in the back of your head. That said, don't hit a guy with a closed fist. Especially in the head/jaw. Easiest way to break your hand.

Physics aside (I am trained in martial arts and went through a dozen years of this stuff...), I think that a good open handed slap to the face conveys a good condescending attitude as well... Oh, and don't slap. Also a bad idea.

The OP's title seems correct, unlike some of the people in the story who called this a "fight".  Not much of a fight at all-it seems Harbaugh punched Kelly and that was it, that Kelly never fought back.  Which is why Kelly "doesn't remember" what happened.  For a tough guy Kelly looks soft.

This afternoon was going to read it but couldn't fine it when I went back to Yahoo. Jim Harbaugh quotes were right on the money since it would be something he would say.
