OTish Niumatalolo to stay at Navy
Per ESPN, Ken Niumatalolo has decided to stay at Navy as their head coach instead of going to BYU. This is relevant as Lance Anderson is now likely considered the front runner for the position.
Edit: And now it looks like Anderson is staying at Stanford. The DCC search continues.
"Kalani Sitake 'is prepared, and expected' to coach BYU if Ken Niumatalolo stays at Navy, per report. A new report seems to give some clarity in the BYU coaching pecking order"

The Maryland AD did for awhile. Then he Durkin'd instead.

He wanted the Oregon-esque up tempo spread, to generate excitement and fill up the stadium (he hopes). And to go along with the Oregon-East meme I suppose. A lot easier to say than do.
Durkin's OC hire should be interesting. I do hope that Maryland becomes another Indiana on our schedule. Gives us more game experience defending tempo and the spread before the Ohio State game.

The flexbone ain't garbage.

That's possibly/probably not right about Lance Anderson. I know Football Scoop is far from perfect, but they reported earlier today that the job is likely to be offered to - and accepted by - Oregon State DC Kalani Sitake if Niumatalolo doesn't want it.

Charlie Weis is the highest paid coach in all of football, college or pro. And he's not even coaching.
Miss you, Big Guy. XOXOXO

Closer to $2m. Hard to pin it down exactly given BYU is a private school. But donors have basically matched what the school is able to put it up through AD funds. That's why you'll hear $900k and other estimates in that ballpark. Really, it's double that from what insiders say.

Stanford DC Lance Anderson is very happy at Stanford and does not intend to leave The Farm for another DC spot. He has been tied to Michigan

Coached with Harbaugh (NFL experience) and I believe the Devin Bush Jr started following him recently. It doesn't necessarily sound like a "home run" hire, but that's a pretty solid hire at least and I think a better option than Anderson.

Unless its Aranda (in conf) or Leavitt (baggage) it seems all other NCAA guys are off the table.
Still confused randy shannon would not want to give it a go as he is a co-DC and would have full run here at a much higher salary (we gave Durkin a $300K+ raise for doing the same job he did at Florida) but it is what it is.

If this leads to us poaching Aranda from Wisconsin, I'm cool with that.
December 16th, 2015 at 8:49 PM ^
I'm a little worried about competing with USC for Aranda's services, since he's from Southern California and has family in the area. But that would be awkward right now, since Wisconsin is playing USC in its bowl game. So we have that going for us.

If it was leavitt, wouldn't the hire have been made already? Just wondering what the holdup for him would be.
December 16th, 2015 at 8:52 PM ^
My guess is that Lance Anderson is Harbaugh's first choice, and he was waiting to see what happens with BYU. Now that Niumatalolo is staying at Navy and Anderson has (basically) publicly stated that he wants the BYU job, I think Harbaugh will have to move on to plan B, whatever that is.

That's a good point. Although if we hired a DC he could have just hit the trail. Also, it is dead period now, so I would imagine the hire would come somewhat soon if it was Aranda or Leavitt. Otherwise, it's someone from the NFL.
