OTish Niumatalolo to stay at Navy

Submitted by Michigan Eaglet on

Per ESPN, Ken Niumatalolo has decided to stay at Navy as their head coach instead of going to BYU. This is relevant as Lance Anderson is now likely considered the front runner for the position.

Edit: And now it looks like Anderson is staying at Stanford. The DCC search continues.

"Kalani Sitake 'is prepared, and expected' to coach BYU if Ken Niumatalolo stays at Navy, per report. A new report seems to give some clarity in the BYU coaching pecking order"

He wanted the Oregon-esque up tempo spread, to generate excitement and fill up the stadium (he hopes).  And to go along with the Oregon-East meme I suppose.  A lot easier to say than do.

Durkin's OC hire should be interesting.  I do hope that Maryland becomes another Indiana on our schedule.  Gives us more game experience defending tempo and the spread before the Ohio State game.

That's possibly/probably not right about Lance Anderson.  I know Football Scoop is far from perfect, but they reported earlier today that the job is likely to be offered to - and accepted by - Oregon State DC Kalani Sitake if Niumatalolo doesn't want it.

Oregon state DC looks likely...he was whittinghams DC for a while. Never thought navy guy was a legit option... Bronco supposedly made 900k...dude made 1.6m at Navy. Not BYUs way to spend like that.

Closer to $2m. Hard to pin it down exactly given BYU is a private school. But donors have basically matched what the school is able to put it up through AD funds. That's why you'll hear $900k and other estimates in that ballpark. Really, it's double that from what insiders say.

Unless its Aranda (in conf) or Leavitt (baggage) it seems all other NCAA guys are off the table.

Still confused randy shannon would not want to give it a go as he is a co-DC and would have full run here at a much higher salary (we gave Durkin a $300K+ raise for doing the same job he did at Florida) but it is what it is.

Partridge has been named lead recruiter for many of the top recruits. I'm assuming Harbaugh feels he has adequate help to get through the bowl game and can name the DC just after the game and say he will come in after NSD. Partridge has the relationship with these kids and is the one reassuring them that Harbaugh can pull in top guys. Partridge is the stabilizing factor right now. Michigan is giving the recruits enough information that they expect the DC will be a slam dunk. Trust in Harbaugh.
