OTish: MSU Hockey coach Tom Anastos steps down.
Six seasons, 1 NCAA Tourney appearance, a general decline in Michigan State hockey. Here's a link: http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/032117aaa.html
Certainly makes Michigan hockey's offseason potentially more urgent, might change the tenor of Warde and Red's upcoming conversation. Hollis took this long to make this happen so who knows how an MSU coaching search looks this time.
that Red is retiring and UM has started a search for his replacement. One call is probably all that is needed, but if not, I am confident we can land a top tier coach.
Let's hope we hear soon that Anastos is NOT the replacement for Red.

Good. I don't want to live in a world where Anastos is still coaching and Red is not.
I would like to live in a world where Anastos coaches MSU in perpetuity, but to each their own.
The MSU rivalry being no fun because they sucked (and then we sucked) is not ideal, frankly.
I agree! I want it to mean something when we beat State. I want them to feel sad because of it.
MSU had a hockey coach?
for real?
Let's hope their new coach flounders and ours finds success!
maybe he's Red's successor

That's not even funny.
Now we need an opening.
A friend of mine's son played for him.
On behalf of Big Ten teams around the country, dammit.
What, Hollis couldn't get him to stick around for another year?
Hollis may not be around for another year, between the football team rape scandal, the gymnastics doctor molestation scandal, and the resurfacing of the marching band director sexual misconduct scandal showing a lack of institutional control. This could be Anastos pulling a "rat leaving the sinking ship" thing while the getting is good...
BREAKING: msu hires Fred Pletsch

Hahahahaha. Underrated comment
When is Red stepping down? This week? Next week?
gonna be an interesting comparison of the trajectory of these 2 programs going forward from here eh?
Never understood this hire, nor why they stuck with him so long. Made absolutely no sense.
Its embarassing MDU hired him and let him stay for 6 years. That was a good hockey program once and Hollis ran it into the ground
If i know Manuel, he'll hire Anastos as Red's replacement. Anastos probably stepped down on a handshake deal

this may be a last ditch effort by Hollis to steal our thunder and take our future coach in a bidding war. If programs are starting over it's in their interest to make a splash at the same time as their rival.
It's a move that was long overdue. Even their coach knew that. Hollis barely pays attention to sports other than football and men's basketball. He's not some evil genius.
Might not be Mel. Could be Danton Cole.

This columnist in the Lansing State Journal called Anastos...AND I QUOTE, "a good dude" in an article in a freaking newspaper.
...and they wonder why we call them "bros"...

The guy is a total hack. Like everyone else at the LSJ he worships the MSU AD and smells his own farts.
