Honestly, I don't like this part of Harbaugh.

Everyone is somewhat lactose intolerant after they are no longer very young. Our bodies are not particularly designed for milk after early childhood. If you are like me, and have a level of lactose intolerant than is bad enough that you actively dislike milk products and often get minor stomach issues from them, but not bad enough that you ever get actually sick from them it creates quite an issue. Milk is actually far from the healthiest option in this case and yet we now have little boys throughout our state thinking the opposite (this idea is reinforced through  "got milk" campaigns in grade schools as well). There are other ways to get your nutrients and a child's diet should be based around a doctor's recommendation (mine finally advised my parents to stop making me drink milk when i was 7/8).

Yes I know I'm being a downer and going with my own personal story, it just irritates me that our culture has this prevailing belief about milk that is no where near true for many of our people.

which drinks milk after being weaned, particularly milk from another species, but i don't know about the everyone intolerance part. Between my daughter and myself, primarily as the wife is somewhat milk intolerant, we drink about 4 gallons per week. Some days we'll drink well over a gallon. I never bloat or feel ill from milk or milk products.

there is also some interesting research about the health benefits of full fat dairy products coming out.

obviously it doesn't help for people who are lactose intolerant, but i don't think we can say 'milk is actually far from the healthiest option'. there is so much about metabolism we don't understand.
