OTish: Heisman

Submitted by noshesnot on
So I know that the Heisman is getting to be a sham award, but this year it seems like no one wants it. It's the end of October, when guys usually start separating themselves for it. God's Second Son, Tim Tebow, had an awful day again today (0 TD, 2 INT, 1 rush TD). After affects of the concussion? Maybe. What about Colt McCoy? I think he's squandered his chances away already. Mark Ingram at Alabama? Perhaps. He's had the most consistency throughout the year. Jimmeh Clausen has the numbers but not the wins to back them up.

There is no way Tebow should win the award with the absolutely pedestrian season he's having. 8 TDs vs. 5 INTs. I don't give a shit how many rushing TDs he has. Furthermore, I couldn't give a shit about him tying Herschel Walker's SEC rushing touchdown record.

No one has really stood out so far and it's been kind of nice. No heisman watch crap to hear espn yammer on about. It's been straight up discussion about which undefeated team is best and such. I don't care what our record is, this is one of the most enjoyable seasons in recent memory so far. Am I right?

Not only did Tebow get intercepted twice today, but both of them were run back for TDs. He's not invincible, and most of the UF crowd I know is disappointed in his play. If UF loses this season, it will probably be in large part because of his less-than-stellar play. I am now offering up the theory that Scot Loeffler is Lloyd Carr's Trojan horse, so that he can get one over on Urban one last time.

It is somewhat disappointing to see how mediocre everyone has played, but I think perhaps we were just witnesses to awesomely good seasons by certain players the last few years. I mean how often do you see a season like Tebow's sophomore one when he rushes for 20 TD's and passes for more than 20? How about last year when there were three QB's with amazing stats like Tebow, McCoy, and Bradford? The standards were definitely raised and this year we've seen the consequences of that. Perhaps all these guys hit their peaks in their previous seasons and are starting to plateau now. I guess we won't know until the season is over or when they go on to the NFL.

ESPN has LeFevour ranked 10th currently. He won't win, but if he throws up a big game against BC next week and the chips run it out to 12-1. He could finish top 10 in the actual voting...

I kind of want to see Ingram win it, especially since he's from Flint. The big QBs aren't living up to the hype and Ingram is having a great year so far. If he would have played better tonight I think he would have been the clear front-runner.

I am actually surprised that LeFevour is not getting more press considering how he is playing, for a one loss team. The loss to Arizona was fairly close.

I've said all year that AJ Green is the best player in the country. Georgia is bad though so he has no chance. Most deserving in my mind is Rolando McClain, but he doesn't play RB or QB so he's also doomed. Before he got hurt I would have said Tony Pike. Now... probably Ingram.

If him or Julio Jones had a real Qb they would both be at least mentioned. Ill go darkhorse here though, with a late season push, Jonathon Dwyer, GaTech. Don't know why really, just a gut call. No but really, Tebow and McCoy could run off and organize drug smuggling ring in honduras and one of them would still win.

While he's an awesome player, Jonathan Dwyer's statistics are not particularly strong (for a player in the Heisman discussion), and his only remaining game on a big stage is the late November game against Georgia. That'll be too late to make a big impact. The Georgia Tech player with a legitimate darkhorse chance, however, is Josh Nesbitt. He's the QB, and if they go 11-1 (a distinct possibility if you look at their schedule), he'll rack up some votes. His stats will be unspectacular, but he makes their offense go and the QB always gets disparate credit/blame for the team's record.

I hate the argument that the TEAM has a few losses then the BEST PLAYER in the country wont be considered. The Heisman is an individual award for individual achievements. It drives me crazy when people say it should go to the best player on the best team. With that said... Golden Tate not Jimmy should be talked about for them. Tebow with 2 pic 6s and more SEC help is out. Case Keenum should be talked about also. LeFevour should have been talked about for three years now. Colt? No Shipley. Noel Devine? Kellen Moore? Ryan Mathews? I just want to hear some different names that DESERVE to be in the discussion.

I think Michael Floyd would have been a serious contender had he never been injured. He was off to a great start over the first three games and he was pretty much unstoppable.
