OTish: In Football We Trust

Submitted by Ishgoblue on

Recently saw a very compelling movie called "In Football We Trust." The movie was about four high school Polynesian student-atheletes, and the positive impact of football on their and their families' lives.

I wasn't quite aware of the struggles of Polynesians in Utah, much less about football, and this movie really opened my eyes. You really see why many people in the communities value preventing ACL injuries over concussions. Also, seeing as how one of the high schools portrayed in the film is the same one as Sione HOUMA and Bryan MONE (Highland), I thought some of you might be interested in watching it. Without ruining too much, I can tell you there were some very wet eyes in the house.

MODS: Feel free to delete if too OT. Just posted because board was a little slow today and movie was about FOOTBALL.

Oh, come on. We're 2-1 in conference play and the one loss was on the road against the 20th ranked team. We were never going to make a serious run for the conference title this season, but there are plenty of games left on the schedule.

there was reason to believe that we could make a serious run at the conference title this year and then the following happened:

1.  Zac Irvin's jumpshop looks like some kind of bad juggling act;

2.  After ranging from serviceable to effective in his freshman year, Ricky Doyle cannot catch a pass let alone finish a play;

3.  Aubry Dawkins is more like to have a jumper finish wedged between the rim and the glass than he is to have one go in;

4.  The following people who were injured last year did not fully recover - Everybody

I am not throwing in the towel yet, but I just don't see it.  I want to believe it is a tournament team but my eyes hurt when I watch them and I don't think they are.

He admittedly said that last year he thought he was going to piss his pants when he went on the court, but doesn't feel that way this year.  So there's that.

"A basic view held in the Church is that Polynesians have ancestral connections with the Book of Mormon people who were descendants of Abraham and that among them are heirs to the blessings promised Abraham's descendants."

"Since 1843, the Church has undertaken extensive missionary efforts in the Pacific islands, and large numbers of Polynesians have joined the Church."

So it has to do with the Mormon religion, which of course, is very prevelant in Utah.
