OTish Dantonio has Policy similar to Hoke?
3 star OT Gavin Cupp had his scholarship pulled over the weekend because he visited OSU for their FNL camp.

I never liked Hoke's policy but I understand the crowd that likes the "old school" approach.
didn't compete, do they just go hang out? Why would you not want your players getting reps/coaching against other regional talents?
Maybe Layne was banged up, I just saw someone tweet a picture of him sitting in the first row of the stands and he apparently didn't interact with coaches or anything. The issue with Cupp is probably that he went there secretly and was most likely trying to earn an offer.
I wouldn't want my opponents to directly be able to evaluate a potential target if I could help it.
The kid should have nothing to hide if he was just going to workout, be seen, and experience the process and OSU. Obviously, he had an agenda or he would have let the staff know. I have no problem with Dantonio on this one. As a matter of fact, I like it that he pulled the scholarship.
Brass balls on a middling prospect (despite the past frothing of the Sparties). Why don't you just continue parroting the RCMB party line of "we can do better" and "we're elite in recruiting now" etc. etc.
Call me when he runs off a player with ranking.
Sparties..../smh
You seem to have great insight into what Dantonio would do differently with a highly ranked player....you want evidence, but offer none yourself.
The concept of ethics and honesty ought to extend to the recruits in this situation just as much as it does the coaches.

How in the world can a kid think he could go to a public nationally covered event like FNL and think that nobody would notice?
How dumb can you be?
FNL is more like FML for this kid.
He's a 17-18 year old kid. Save for the exceptionally mature ones, thoughts like these just really don't cross their minds. It may come across as common sense to us, but your brain doesn't fully develop and understand the concept of "consequences for your actions" until you turn 24-25. In other words, these kids generally think they're a lot more clever than they actually are.
That's not a knock on him, specifically. Most every kid his age is like that. I was, too. It'll be a tough learning experience for him.
Dantonio didn't pull Larry Scott's scholly when he went on some visits. I can understand if Gavin lied about it.
These coaches want these kids to make really early decisions and then won't let them go on other visits. Hey NCAA, early signing period seems to make perfect sense. So you definitely will never allow one.
and then won't let them take visits. How does this make an early signing period a good idea? I don't get it unless you're one of those coaches.
When kid visits another school, it reminds me of the old line, "Honey, I think we should start seeing other people." Also, when kid visits a dirty program like Ohio State or Alabama,. there is the risk of them taking a golden handshake becoming ineligible if caught. Obviously, there is a big chance of them flipping due to that payout.
I still detest Dantonio as much as any coach in the game, but I won't criticize him for this move.
EDIT: There's a huge, huge difference between "we won't save you a spot if you visit other schools," and "you're not welcome here if you hide a visit to other schools."
As mentioned before: Pharoah Brown was essentially the exact same situation
it doesn't sound like you understand how the policy works about when the coaches consider a kid "no longer committed" vs pulling his offer. A kid who visits somewhere else is considered "no longer committed" and risks losing his spot. It does not necessarily mean the coaches will stop recruiting the kid.
As for the injustice of kids having to commit in the first place. Yes. Agreed that is really problematic.

Not similar at all. Plenty of MSU commits go visit other schools. They have a running back out of D.C. area who was just at a Bama camp last week and got an offer. I have to assume this guy was dishonest with Dantonio.
You shouldn't ASSume.

Also hilarious.
Per Mike Wilson:
He did not let the Michigan State coaches know of his plans to go to Ohio State. His offer was yanked late last night. Arcuri got an offer as a result -- and it is a full offer.
I'm not sure if Michigan State is 100 percent done with Cupp after this, but right now, he would not be considered a commit.
Dropped an update on some recruiting news from late last night regarding Gavin Cupp ... http://t.co/Gof2UVMq1k

Apparently this Cupp dude thought he was going to sneak into FNL and not get noticed. Ohio dude gonna Ohio.would have helped Cupp. I'm not seeing it.

Except a NLI does NOT guarantee a scholarship.
he did, how would that help him? If he was locked in to MSU, would Meyer even let him participate? He could have stayed home if he was content going to MSU. He took a gamble that wouldn't have been available to him if he had signed the LOI.
I think having the opportunity of accepting an offer from his dream school is worth a lot. The ability to attend a camp after you've finished the recruiting process would seem far less important. Also, he might well have been allowed to attend if he had talked to MSU first.

I have no problem with Hokes or Dantonios policy but feel that perhaps Dantonios was more appropriate for today's kids.
