Other Coaches?

Submitted by Sambojangles on

In all the coverage the story has been getting, has there been any questions asked of current and former coaches? Has anybody asked Meyer, Weis, Carroll, Tressel, Paterno, etc.? Most coaches probably will not answer any questions, but I think if they did, they would provide the best context. We have seen the reports of players admitting that they go over the limit on their own (Tebow is the one I remember most), but coaches know and can explain how much they push all their players.

Lou Holtz is probably the most visible former coach, but he's been out of the game for probably too long to be of much use. That and he's rambling and incoherent. I haven't seen anything, but what has he said about hte situation.

As it relates to the media, no coach will say anything. I am sure as much as they are part laughing because someone else got caught, they also feel bad for RR because they know how much BS this is.

Notwithstanding, I am sure most DI programs had a nice little sit down yesterday with their teams, coaches and compliance directors to discuss what is voluntary, what is 20 hours and how to speak to the media (if even allowed)regarding what type of practices they have at their given school.

If this were Purdue, Baylor, any other whatever school, or even State (I tried in all my might not to use them as an example, but just couldn't), this would be possibly a mention along the bottom of the SportsCenter ticker. Because we matter, because we are still a power even after a 3-9 season, because we are what others look up to and strive to be, because we are the leaders and best...this becomes a story.

Go Blue.

not to read something from Coach Tressel; seems some bucknut would of popped a microphone in his face with a question by now. I heard a comment from Coach Osborne the other day and he stated how it gets a little gray as to what is voluntary and without repercussions of some sort. Had a peculiar kind of look on his face when he said it too, interesting...
I think most of the modern coaches have a 'yeah it's voluntary but so is playing time' approach to practice, and no one's wantin' to voluntarily stick their necks out just to make a comment.
