OT:Corey Malone Hatcher-Taking a Medical disqualification
Good luck to the young man,get that education! https://twitter.com/CMH2017/status/882309188499775488
Glad he gets to stick with the university and focus on education.
He did a lot of great things with recruiting other top notch kids and always promoting the Michigan brand. Love to see him on the sidelines in the fall in a Michigan polo working with the players and staff.
That's gotta be one of the toughest decisions to make. Best of luck for him in all his future endeavors and he will always be a Michigan Man.
If this is OT what are we supposed to talk about?
...until we beat MSU and OSU.
And win a b1G championship

Our best athletic achievement.
...and politics.
If you aren't able to play the sport you love, at least he's able to get a free education at the best university in the world
Too bad. What timing, too, as his recruiting profile was just thrown up. Best wishes to him.
Which led with his injury history. That's rough his career was over before it began, but glad he was at least able to parlay his talent into a full ride before he had to quit football.
Can't be!
Definitely bummed for him. Hoping he still has an awesome college experience at Michigan, gets degree and finds another path. Wishing him the best.
GO BLUE!!
Good for him. It sucks that he can't compete, but this is probably the best decision for him.
If, in two years, he feels like he wants to give it a go again, can he do it? Would he have to transfer to another school? I'm just a little surprised he didn't redshirt this season and reevaluate his health next summer.
suffered a serious injury, but rehabbing is really, really difficult. It's also very time consuming. Maybe he just thought it was time to stop playing football.
Yea, but the medical and rehab help he would get through football would probably, more likely than not, be significantly better than him going it alone. Why not take the redshirt year, utilize team/AD resources and then reevaluate?
Either way I wish the kid the best. It couldn't have been an easy decision and I hope his injury eventually heals up to be good as new.
Having had an Achilles injury/surgery, your never actually the same. I would have rather had a knee any day. He will have a hard time doing any of the things in the same manner, prior to the injury.
I would have to assume he will get the same treatment as if he was still playing. That's why the program is still first class even when times are tough. I mean, even RichRod's staff (primarily Barwis) helped a non-student walk again.
I believe he would have to transfer. I think Canteen took a medical and then grad transferred to ND this spring.
Highly doubt after a couple years away without focusing on football and retaining decent playing shape, he would give it go again. Best of luck to him!
he was gonna redshirt most likely. why not take the year and see how it progresses. can he now not ever play football or is just at UM? Can he do what Ondre Pipkin did and play at another school down the road?
You have to think the staff recruited him, they are not pulling a pipkins here. They obviously wanted him. But I wouldn't be surprised if he knew football was not possible and UM still gave him the scholarship knowing they would get it back.
Oh man - I feel for the kid. I would really like to know more about the Achilles and why it has shut his career down. I don't think I have heard that injury ending a career except for a few professional athletes that were already nearing the end of their careers.
So that gives us like 20 Schollies easily in 2018 and then like 23 for 2019?
You just gotta feel for the young man. Best of luck!!!!!
Brian called that one.
This could work out for his best interest of he uses his extra free time to excell in class. Good luck to the kid !
That sucks. Just read the write-up yesterday expressing concern over his injury history. I had a partial tear in my Achilles about 20 years ago and it hurt for a long, long time. Painful and a bear to heal. Best of luck in that post-football future!
Not many coaches do this!
Good luck. Your future looks bright.
I'm gonna assume there's a lot of drinking going on, because I can't imagine what could be going on in your head when you made the conscious decision to label this thread off topic.
On Topic
but I hope he gets everything else he wants out of his time in AA
Best of luck to him.
This isn't OT lol
Best of luck to him. Can't wait for the thread on RCMB about how this kid was "Harbaughd."
On twitter it says its an Achilles injury. Hope hes able to recover without any long term injuries
But Thank God Hatcher was only like the 6th best D-Lineman from 2017 class. Wouldve been devastating to lose Solomon, Villain, Irving Bey, Jeter, Hudson, etc
It has been lingering since HS. Brandon Brown taked to his Dad 6/26. They were hoping for a better result.
Corey....wishing you a fast, healthy recovery! Go St. Joe Bears and Go Blue!
When I played for Kalamazoo Loy Norrix we used to kick your butt. Nice to know ya!
West side of the state is great
Go Blue
Lakeshore grad....we kicked both of your butts!!! :P
Small world
Lakeshore rocks too
Same here. Btw my comment was in jest. I remember getting my ass kicked by sj and ln as well
Sideeeee
I feel for the kid... I'm in month nine of rehabbing the achilles on my right foot/ leg, which I popped last October. I have officially quit playing tennis, as that's twice I've ruptured the same achilles in the last twenty years during a tennis match... no longer worth it! It's a major injury, because a complete tear also badly damages the calf muscles, which are connected to the achilles.
The good news is, the rehab program will return full functionality, albeit increased susceptibility to reinjury (like me) when exposed to excessive stress on it. Knowing the caliber of young men that Harbaugh is recruiting, I'm hoping Corey will take full advantage of the educational opportunity that awaits him, and I wish him all the future success that a UM degree can facilitate.
That has to be a very tough thing to face, especially when football is what brought you to the University, but sticking around to get an education is definitely not the worst thing that can come out of it and you get that Michigan degree that opens doors around the world all the same, which is great. Good luck to him!
This is gonna hurt our standing in the national three-name ranking.
