OT:blue field, red field, now purple!

Submitted by Philbert on

So Central Arkansas is throwing their name into the mix of worse fields possible. I originally liked the smurf turf because it was creative. The red of Eastern Washington looked cool but it burnt my retna's after a while. Now we have purple but not only purple. They have it with alternating shades. YIKES! can somebody upload the photo, I haven't mastered that skill yet.

Others may disagree, but for me if it isn't green, it isn't right.  Boise State's colors are so dark I just don't enjoy watching their home games.  Some AD's are tyring way too hard.

And I can say that because Eastern Michigan was founded in 1849 and Michigan State sometime after.  Although, I'm not entirely clear on Eastern's Colors history on the field but since they've been the Hurons for a while and have used the same logo, they probably started using green and white before the Spartans did.

when it comes to personalized turfs and as far as painted fields go, that one isn't too bad. It does create a more personal homefield and the two other schools which have shied away from the natural grass look are doing pretty good on the field...so if we were to do something along these lines, I'd imagine a blue field with yellow yard markers?

I always thought Michigan should have a maize field.  By which I mean an actual field of corn, not just yellow turf.  I think it would really give us a competitive advantage.  /s

You can rip on it all you want, but message boards like this all around the country are talking about Central Arkansas football.  I would say that they accomplished their goal.  It is not like they are Michigan or ND or something and are concerned about ruining a nationally-recognized brand.

Also, take a look at Oregon.  Their uniforms and their basketball floor are total eyesores, but it gets them a lot of attention and apparently it appeals to recruits.  If you are a small program trying to make a splash, why not try something a little outlandish?  I think football will survive, no matter how ugly their field is.

In the interests of full disclosure, I live in Boise and the The Blue (their preferred term over Smurf Turf) has kind of grown on me.  At this point, the blue field IS their tradition.
