OT Zion Williamson class of 2018 Hoops.

Serious question. Why can we not land kids like this? What are we missing from a program standpoint? These types of talents used to come to Ann Arbor in the 90s. We get these types of talents on the gridiron. It's not even about Zion per say, who is a legitimate phenom...but moreover why can we not land top 20 talents. We get into a lot of discussions about the b-ball program but it still baffles me as to how inferior we are to programs we used to compete with on the recruiting front in the modern day practice of landing star talent. The facilities......Jordan brand....recent success....it's all there. So why does MSU and the other powers recruit circles around us? I have my theory but I'm interested to hear the honest evaluation from others.

We cheated in the 90's.  We don't cheat now.  That is why the best of the best go to other schools, such as Duke, UK and now UCLA: they cheat and we don't.  It's also why the NCAA needs to either enforce their rules or let college athletes have the same right to make money that everyone else on any kind of scholly has.

I'd love to know how many people have the hello thread (for Donovan) drafted. The race to be the first to post is on.

We were hit with heavy sanctions after the fab five era and concluded as an athletic department that we will never endure that embarrassment again. Other teams still take those risks. That's it.

Beilein's uptight style of recruiting and historical emphasis on "stretch 4's who can shoot" turns off more exciting recruits.  Now, he's changed a bit of going after traditional bigs, but the perception remains.  Beilein also puts restrictions on when to offer and has more requirements that must be met before offering, and that leads to some top players not getting offers.

With fewer exciting recruiits, the basketball experience suffers, turning off more visitors.

We don't recruit dirty as some other programs, which is fine though.  We shouldn't play a dirty game, but there are definitely things which we can control.

For real, whats the point of this post? Why bring this kid up like Beilein messed up bad by not having him commit already. He's from South Carolina, its not like he's a legacy or he is in UM's backyard. Just because you found his film and he's dunking all over people? So you just wanted a reason to complain about JB? Okay.
