OT: Yearly NHL Playoff Bracket

Submitted by WingsNWolverines on

Hey MgoBlog it's that time of year again! STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS! The most exciting time of the year! Super psyched for Wednesday and like every year I make my yearly playoff bracket for fun. Tell me what you think of mine? I'm working on several projects with photoshop right now and this was a Paint/Photoshop project. GO WINGS!

NHL re-seeds after each round, so I guess it's fine that the match ups are listed down in this way. Also, this background reminds me of my old NHL face-off on the original playstation. I loved how the crowd would chant some un-decipherable phrase so that it could be used for all teams.

I almost feel bad for him, but he's brought it on himself. I mean, I know he wants to contribute something that sounds like it could be interesting (maybe), but even so, he has a month to get to 100 legitimately without annoying all of his wouldbe audience. I hope he learns his lesson, starts a new account, and spends the next month becoming a legitimate member of the community. Then he can test the waters with the 101 countdowns.

I'll take Rangers out east unless they have to play the Pens. West I'll take Vancouver, a little under the radar lately and I think last year's game 7 loss is driving them more than we know. Going with the Canucks to hoist it unless Luongo goes all choke artist like usual.

I'd be amazed if the Rangers made it to the cup finals.  They seem to have been the beneficiaries of some letdown by the Bruins and injuries to the Pens.  I fully expect The Penguins to make it to the cup finals and play either Vancouver or Detroit.

To the Finals.  Tough first series with the cross-state rivals but take care of NY Rangers in 6 games followed up by an ousting of the Bruins.  Sure, go Wings "out West", another Pens-Wings match-up would be nice to see (but I personally see Vancouver making the finals).

East:

Pens in 7

Rangers in 4

Bruins in 5

Devils in 5

West:

Vancouver in 4

Blues in 5

Chicago in 6

Red Wings in 6

That's about all I have decided so far.

Whenever I try and predict the NHL playoffs, the Wings lose. I am just going to sit back and enjoy the third most entertaining playoffs in sports (behind NCAA Hockey and NCAA Bball).

Um...the Devils are back in the playoffs.  Therefore, it is awesome!

Also, if the Panthers lose, it cannot be considered a choke.  They are only seeded higher b/c they won their division.  The Devils actually got 8 more points than the Panthers this season.

Which is one thing the NBA gets right. A team finishing 6th shouldn't get a weaker team than the ones finishing 4th and 5th. I understand rewarding division winners with home ice, but they should be bumped down to 4th if a team that finished second in their division has more points.

That being said, I don't think Chicago beats Phoenix. After 3 years, they should be able to get past the first round, and Chicago is inconsistent. I really don't trust Corey Crawford (after watching him struggle all year on my fanstasy team).

Is that another Devils fan? I'm cautiously optimistic about playing the Panthers since the last time they got Florida it ended in a sweep and a Cup run. But with the way the playoffs have went the last ten years or so, who knows anymore. Win that one and they would be almost guarunteed a division matchup in round 2, which would be tough.

West is wide open this year, I'm just euphoric we [Wings] don't have San Jose first round. I really hope St. Louis beats them but I'm not holding my breath.

Go Wings!

Out east I have Rangers. Pittsburgh has a murderous draw with Philly

Right after the lockout everyone was saying that the Wings' played in the weakest divison--the Central, which included then-really bad St. Louis, Columbus, and even Chicago and Nashville, which were borderline playoff teams then. So can we talk about how Vancouver managed to win the West and President's trophy by playing in what is clearly the worst division, one which had no other playoff teams other than the Canucks? They got to play Edmonton, Minnesota, Colorado, and Calgary, all of which missed the playoffs.

Don't trust the Canucks. They won't make it to the conference finals, let alone the Stanley Cup Finals again.
