A few points:
1. Good for the kid to still have some pride for his former team.
2. Holy cripes -- OSU is seriously 0-9 against the SEC?

Whose got a faster 40 time - John Navarre or Ryan Mallet?
Trick question: The answer is Elvis (Grbac).
----umhannon
But I will never forget this (FF to 0:40).....
All right Lemmings. Bring the heat.
He only covers five yards during the first :40.
Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen that in a long time but remember it like it was yesterday. At the time, I thought Mallett was going to be in big trouble with Carr for that ball-flip he did after the TD.
(Still too early for me to post?)
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
14-9!!!!, what I would do for us to be involved in a game like that again! Those were the days. GO BLUE
Hail to the Victors! Go Blue!
And neither of them are about Mallett.
The.
Worm.
(check out the end of the video, of course)
Doing the worm. I completely forgot about that, but it's awesome!!
I can't imagine a Lloyd Carr era player getting away with that. I can't stop laughing or rewatching it.
Using the term Wildcat to describe a direct snap to anyone other than a QB is like calling any rock band from the early 90s Grunge.
Mallett's going to "drop the hammer" on those Buckeyes...
Ba-dum Ching!

And we can cheer him on to beat OSU and make them 0-10 against the SEC. They are the only Big Ten team that I just can't cheer for.
Wolverine Nation Unite!
does this mean that he'll transfer back if Harbaugh is the new coach???
/s
I can't wait to watch Mallet carve them up like a turkey for Thanksgiving.
Over/Under on the amount of times this is mentioned by an announcer mentions this during the Sugar Bowl?
I am setting the line at 6 right now
Funny, but I'm having a hard time getting to "RichRod ran Mallet out of town" from reading that article.
- - -
Related, somewhat: I spoke to one of my favorite (seriously ... good person) Sparty acquaintances at dinner last night about RichRod. This person was genuinely curious about my take on the coaching situation. Of note:
* He wondered why RichRod didn't try to keep Mallet. (It was obviously assumed that no effort to that end was made.)
* He assumed that Justin Boren transferred because he didn't like the new culture. The legacy scholarship not offered to Zach Boren (assuming all that is true) was complete news to him.
* He believes that Drew Sharp has been hard on Dantonio.
This guy gets his news from the MSM and the RCMB.
"..."
He assumed that Justin Boren transferred because he didn't like the new culture. The legacy scholarship not offered to Zach Boren (assuming all that is true) was complete news to him.
Zach Boren wasn't the big issue. Justin Boren transferred primarily because he wasn't allowed to skip workouts to drive his father's snow plow in Ohio (seriously).
Then why did Mike Boren come out with an angry statement after Zach didn't receive the scholarship offer stating that he's not going to have his two sons going to two different schools? You are correct that Justin's desire to leave town to help his dad with the snow plow thing was a point of contention with the new staff, but Zach's situation was also a major issue as well.
Reason why RR ran Mallet off the team:
Because RR was blown away witht he QB depth and couldn't wait to choose between walk-on Nick Sheridan and transfer RS frosh Steven Threet.
"I was kind of disappointed in myself to run a 10.44 (100m), but I will accept that. Running the No. 2 time in the nation is pretty good. I was trying to run a 10.3, but there was strong wind." -- Denard Robinson
I don't know if it's true or not, but I always got the sense watching Mallett on the sideline that people didn't like him.
Not sure I've ever seen a quarterback throw the ball harder, though.
I mean, you've never watched Brett Farve throw a football?
"That's all there is...there isn't anymore"
That seemed to be the general feeling among many of the players in that they couldn't stand him.
I have a close friend who met Mallett at a couple practices in 07. The exact words she used to describe him were "arrogant," and "obnoxious."
He was probably just young and full of himself. I'm sure he's grown out of that by now.
Go Blue! Always!
It's rare that I remember a specific moment from a specific game, but I'll never forget watching that behemoth freshman QB jump up and down like a [very large] little kid at the Notre Dame game.
I remember hearing about him being homesick, and in this article his current coach says how much he's matured. So whether or not he was obnoxious to others, from a far-away fan's perspective I'm glad I got to watch him when he was immature. I'll still be rooting for him now (even more considering who he's playing).
One reason is that I've got relatives in Arkansas, but I also love the fact that Mallett still has a little hate for the Buckeyes. Ryan may have been an immature jerk while he was here, but he has never criticized RR in any public statement, when it would have been very easy to do so, and it would have garnered him lots of favorable publicity from the anti-RR crowd.
The contrast with the Borens—both Justin and both of his parents—could not be more dramatic by now.
talent is not the question. Despite his natural gifts, my impression is that he will always put himself before his fellow players and his team.
By definition, that is not Michigan. I can't think of a single player on the team today that could be described in the same manner. These Wolverines make me proud.
He will be successful, but I was not sad that he left.
"He stood there like the house by the side of the road, and watched that one go by"
ProFootballWeekly's Nolan Nawrocki has this to say about him (in an article posted on Yahoo Sports (at http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Alya6axIEKR6LJS3Ove0G_Y5nYcB?slug=pfw-20101213_locker_luck_headline_qb_class):
[He] has a cannon on his shoulder that allows him to fit the ball into very tight spots and move his team downfield in a hurry when he is hot. Yet, his ball placement has been sporadic, his feet are heavy and he has been unable to stay healthy this season as a stationary passer. His footwork is lazy, his accuracy wanes on the move and he makes too many ill-advised throws, coming from a Bobby Petrino offense that tends to mask the deficiencies of his QBs. More troubling than any physical traits, however, are concerns about his intangibles, makeup and character that bear too much resemblance to former Chargers first-round bust Ryan Leaf.
we wager on Mr. Mallets game yardage total against the hated Buckeyes?
