OT: Yankees reach their spending limit

Submitted by Plegerize on
Who would have thought the New York Yankees would ever have a limit on how much they'd spend on players? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4861828 Apparently they have reached a limit and are not willing to exceed their 2009 payroll. I guess they are mortal just like the rest of us.

I was watching a cartoon with my little cousin once and after a joke they cut to one of the other characters at a drum set who did a rim shot. My little cousin looked up at me and said, "Did you know, when they play the drums like that, it's called a 'rim job'?" I'm not sure how long I sat with a horrified look on my face before I busted out laughing, but he still doesn't know what was funny about that.

It's really stupid to talk about politics on a sports blog, especially this one, for a few reasons. 1. Brian and Tim have requested on multiple occasions that we don't, and have had to delete or lock a few threads that have... 2. ...deteriorated into pointless, contentious arguments. 3. Most people read the sports section and sports blogs to get away from politics. 4. From the mgoboard FAQ: UNWELCOME, KTHX Politics Hope this helps. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

anyone else feel there is a chance of the tigers signing him. i know alot of people are still upset about grandy, but feel the tigers are still looking for a lefty to bat in the middle of line up. didnt read the link but i think the yanks only have two million to spend for 2010, when he made what 13 last year. im hoping for this move.

damon is a good lefty and ok outfielder. it would only be a one year deal unlike granderson and they wouldnt pay him his asking price. i see it being half of what he made last year. which would be more then the yanks will offer. i dont see him staying in new york. believe me i HATE the yanks more then anyone. mainly because all the to$U fans around here are steelers and yankee fans but he is a good bat.

I'm sure the only way DD signs Damon is to short term while Grandy had a few years left on his contract with his salary escalating every season. Also Detroit didnt have a lineup spot for Grandy since it was obvious he wasnt a pure leadoff hitter like they are hoping Austin Jackson is. I'd be willing to take Damon on for a season or two, two probably being the max and possibly a club option for the third but doubtful. Damon is still a solid player even though his skills are diminishing. Detroit figured they could sell Grandy while still high. I like the idea of Jackson/Sizemore at the top, hopefully they can get on base for Cabrera and Maggs.
