Thoughts? I think this looks tremendous from first glance, and having it be one of the iconic arcs it certainly looks relatively similar to the source material....which is also tremendous.
What's the source material? I've been looking for a good place to start with X-Men comics (I've done Wolverine, Go Blue! and Green Lantern), but I don't know where to begin. This probably wouldn't be a good starting point, though.

This is a recent reissue, but essentially it was a story line from the early 1980s incolving alternate timelines. Great story, but the alternate timeline stuff really makes it difficult to comprehend the Marvel Universe as a whole.
I am looking forward to it coming out. I was a stricktly Star Wars kid, so I missed out on alot of these comic book franchises. I am making up for it as an adult.
I was more of a Star Wars kid growing up too. Recently started working through the different books/story lines.

Maybe for the next sequel they'll use the title:
"X-Men Knights in White Satin".
With John Byrne, was it? Iconic story arc yes, but have started to take a lowered expectations approach to the X-Men movies. On a related note, thought "The Wolverine" was positively blah.
Not sure how many comic book collectors are on the site, but personally love Fassbender as young Magneto. Halle Berry I just can't get into as Storm; might be because I'm thinking of the Ororo after Forge zapped her/when she tore Callisto a new one personality. Berry comes across as very...wooden. Am warming up to McAvoy as the younger Xavier as well.
If it's any help, it has been stated that, due to Halle Berry's pregnancy, she will only appear in one scene of the upcoming movie.
Edit: apparantly that has been refuted by Bryan Singer, but she appears to get stabbed by a sentinel in the trailer, so we shall see.
It was indeed Claremont, as are basically all the good X-Men arcs.
I agree. Fassbender as Magneto is excellent. McAvoy and him are great. Never liked Halle Berry as Storm from the beginning. I think they went for a well known name instead of finding a better actress. Though Storm isn't the most emotional character, Berry just doesn't do it for me in the role.

I'll be there this summer. It looks good.
I'm generally on-board with Marvel movies, notwithstanding the sheer number of them. The Wolverine movies, I admit, wore me out--I was a huge fan of the X Men long before there were Marvel-based movies, but the way they made him, basically, immortal (and then played around with his immortality) made me lose interest. Why root for someone who can't be killed?
Days of Future Past, as I recall, goes back to an interesting time in the Marvel universe. It's been too many years since I cracked a comic book, but I still love the characters and story lines.
Believe it or not but Marvel has never put out an X-Men movie, when the company was dying they sold off the rights of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and Spider-Man over to Fox and Sony respectivly. In order for Marvel to get those franchises back I believe the afformentioned movie companies need to relinquish rights by not putting out a movie every 2 years I think? I'll have to look up the deal but ya this is the reason we're getting so many Wolverine films and a total Spider-Man reboot.

There are a handful of movies I am genuninely excited about seeing when they come out in the coming months, and this is certainly one of them.
The others being: Transcendence (interested in seeing how Wally Pfister handles his first directoral role), Godzilla (so far, great trailers/casting)...maybe Spiderman? I didn't mind the first, and it will be interesting how they can deal with all the apparent villains.
But I've been a huge Fassbender fan for awhile, so I'll probably be interested in just about anything he does. His role in 12 Years A Slave was flat out nasty (in more ways than one).
...the other two films he's been in that were directed by Steve McQueen? Both are excellent -- and he's excellent in them.
I'll forgive him for the abomination of a film that was 'The Counselor.' That wasn't his fault. He had nothing to work with there in terms of any kind of decent script/dialog.

Agreed...'Shame' was great, but I totally feel the same way.
AND...I feel the same way about 'Hunger,' as well. Great film, and only McQueen could have pulled off the film's emotional highlight in a single, sustained shot 20+ minute interview scene. Yup, you read that right.
I'm still waiting for: DC vs. Marvel and the Secret Wars to hit the theatres!

So, I never miss an X-men movie. I've heard good things about the new Capt. America flick. Looking forward to seeing that, too.
The new TMNT movie trailer will be playing during the new Capt. America movie. It doesn't come out til August, but it should give a good idea of what it will be like. I'm pretty excited about that one.
I personally really liked First Class, much more so than the first X-Men movie. In my book, however, X2 was by far the best of all the X-Men movies.
Love the X-men, but the X-3 and the two Wolverine movies, coupled with the great success Marvel has had with their movie-verse has made me very doubting of Fox and their X-Men movies. First Class was better than expected, but this movie looks like it could be too crowded. To many mutants, to much jumping back and forth, and I am not a fan of them shoving Wolverine into the role originally played by Kitty in the comics.
But who am I kidding, I will go see it, enjoy it and eagerly anticipate the next one. But Captain America: Winter Solider and Guardian's of the Galaxy should be much better this summer.

Guardians of the Galaxy by DnA was one of my favorite recent Marvel runs and I was really skeptical about the movie, but I really enjoyed the trailer. Not sure what you thought was in it that looked awful exactly, but I think they did a good job of translating the comic as best they could to a movie. Of course this was just a trailer, so for all I know the movie could be terrible, but I was far more excited after the trailer than I was before.
Two things I love and think back to and remember what I was doing or what was going on during my life. Sometimes I even remember dates based on a certain game. I always remember when certain friends got married becasue I remember the game we all watched together during their wedding weekend. Or trips with my family and the game I watched, even bad events or time periods. Same with the X-men, I look at certain issues and remember where I was when that issue came out. I remember when the age of apocolypse story line came out the Spring of my Junior year and reading it in my fraternity house and thinking it was just awesome.
I think the first x-men movie was absolutely horrible on every level. The second was OK and the third was not good. First class was good although it was a bit campy. However, the early scenes with Magneto were awesome and I hope the new movie captures the spirit of that film and the Avengers. My friend once noted that one of the difference between Marvel and DC movies is that Marvel movies are fun. Days of Future past should be a darker film, so I will be curious how it compares to First Class or the Avengers.
Hoping in a few years when someone asks me I say yeah 2014 my son graduated kindergarten, Michigan won the big ten and then had a great run in the tourney.

I've been out of touch with my comics/gaming side for too long. Two kids under age five will do that. Anyway:
1) Bryan Singer as director doesn't make me excited. First X-Men were pretty good and overall well-done - but then Joss Whedon absolutely smoked everything remotely superhero with The Avengers (and the Buffy and Angel series before that, to be honest). Going to be tough to get behind a Marvel team movie without Whedon at the helm.
2) Is this going to fit in with the SHIELD/Avengers/Captain America/Thor/Hulk story semi-arc in the recent movies?
3) Why no Dr. Strange movie yet? Ok, I know that one. Still, it would be great.
4) Days of Future Past is an absolute fantastic story. If there's any X-Men story that needed to be made into a movie, it was this one. Very happy about this.

There will be no affiliation with any of the recent Marvel made movies, in the Avengers Whedon can't even mention that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are mutants, let alone Magneto's children.

There is a Dr. Strange movie in the works that will take place after the events of Avengers 2. Johnny Depp was said to be in the running for the lead role (I'd rather see someone else portray Stephen Strange personally but alas.) I think the delay in a Dr. Strange movie was the gradual approach to bringing magic into the new Marvel Universe. He will be mentioned at some point in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, most likely be someone as a part of shied, but he's slowly coming into play.
- This isn't really a question, but yes DoFP is an amazing arc that totally deserved to be played out on the big screen.

Looks good. The problem with Marvel is that they seem to shit the bed when they have a good thing going. After Singer left to do Superman, X3 was God awful. Spider Man 3 (before the reboot) tried to do too much. The first Hulk movie, etc.

While I agree, those franchises have gone downhill the more movies they have put out, that is the fault of Fox for the X-men and Sony for Spiderman. Marvel does not control the movie rights for them. Marvel is responsible for the dissapointing Hulk movies, but not the X-Men, Spiderman or Fantastic Four franchises.
