OT: WrestleMania 28

Submitted by bronxblue on

Slow sports day, but in the world of Sports Entertainment we've got the other Granddaddy of them all.  Here's the card:

  • Preshow:  Primo and Epico vs. The Usos vs. Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd (Triple Threat Tag Team Title Match)
  • Kelly Kelly and Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix and Eve Torres (Tag Team match)
  • Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny (12-man tag team match)
  • Randy Orton vs. Kane Singles match
  • Cody Rhodes vs. The Big Show (WWE Intercontinental Championship)
  • Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus (World Heavyweight Championship)
  • CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho (WWE Championship)
  • Triple H vs. The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell)
  • The Rock vs. John Cena (Main Event)

I predict wins by Orton, Rhodes, Sheamus, Jericho, Undertaker and Cena, but could see The Rock win with a run-in-assisted finish.  Team Johnny should win, and I'm guessing Maria Menounos pins someone because she's on some television show.

Should be fun.

So happy I'm not the only one really looking forward to this.

I think Kane overcomes Orton only because it creates a potentially much better storyline. If Orton wins, Kane will just move on and get pushed farther down the card. If Kane wins, I think a rivalry between the two forms for the next month or so.

I agree that Rhodes wins, but I really hope that's not the case. What an uneventful intercontinental championship run. That needs to be changed.

Sheamus absolutely wins. The Daniel Bryan thing has run its course. Also, I recall reading something that the winner of the Royal Rumble wins the vast majority of his Wrestlemania matches. So advantage Sheamus

Undertaker keeps the streak alive, but will also have to defeat Shawn Michaels (the guest referee) in doing so

CM Punk-Jericho and Rock-Cena I think are toss-ups. Cena likely wins because the WWE will not want to give Rock the win and then see him off to go do his movie superstar thing. I really want CM Punk to win just because he's a Chicago boy.

Maria Menounos of course wins. Advantage celebrity. Always

Team Johnny likely wins, but someone really needs to tell the WWE Board how awful he really is. Not that he actually does anything, but everytime he gets pinned in a match or slapped or whatever he has to be the worst WWE entertainer I've ever seen. Grantland agrees with me.

Game of Thrones + Wrestlemania = good Sunday

I largely agree with everything you said.  I actually think that Undertaker wins a pretty legit finish (unlike last year when he needed that flukey submission).  Definitely someone's going off the top of the cage, and it isn't going to be Michaels (with his back and neck problems).  Wouldn't be surprised to see Triple H take the fall.

I could see them giving Rock the smoaz win if it progresses a storyline for Cena, but otherwise I agree he's got to get the win.

Still remember kids in fourth grade constantly saying, "Can you smell what the Rock..." along with doing the hip-thrust while crossing-arms-over-crotch "Suck-It" thing all the teachers hated.  That needs to be brought back.

I was a big proponent of the "suck it."

As much as I'm not a big fan of John Cena (he's just too predictable, he's like the Yankees at this point), I really do love the "you can't see me" thing. It's even more fun when basketball players do it after hitting a big shot. That's been my go-to taunt of late

Here is former Michigan wrestler, and former WCW wrestler, Scott Steiner, in early 2000 talking trash about ohio while wearing a Michigan jersey and beating up an "ohio fan" in columbus. Always makes me laugh.

11 years ago tonight was the greatest Wrestlemania ever. Rock vs Austin II.

Now, we have this junk. At least The Rock is back.

Or even early 00's? I ask because I started watching then, and to me wrestling completely sucks now in comparison to those days. Maybe I sound like a get off my lawn type, but to me both the storylines and more importantly, the wrestlers had way more charisma and character back then. And anyone else think the wrestlers are generally (a few exceptions) smaller now? I don't know if it's steroid testing or what, but I care a lot less about watching 200 lb guys that kinda look like me fake fighting than I do 300 pounders who are huge. I think the Rock and Undertaker are great, but a lot of the other prime time guys leave a lot to be desired IMO.

The big problem is that with the internet and the multiple shows that they have to put on, the need for storyline progression means you can't have 6-month storylines.  Guys need to constantly cycle through and have fresh storyline and fueds, which unfortunately means far more stinkers amongst the performances.  That said, I think today's wrestling is probably as good as it was in the 90s, but as an adult I have less patience for the storyline shifts and limited characters.  Of course, I'd probably feel different if I was younger.

I am 28 yrs old..grew up on Wrestling and loved it through the late 80s mid 90s...I cant stand what  it has become..a soap opera.

Anyway Brock Lesnar will ruin the Main Event ..sorry to spoil

Yeah, but it feels like a storyline match that may flair up later tonight.  Like, depending on who wins the GM match you could see Sheamus and Bryan becoming involved later.
