OT: worst movie theater experiences

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

i'm in the mood for a good laugh so i figure i'd start one of these threads again.

my worst theater experience was when i went to go see Spiderman 3 in a theater. well of course some dumb guy starts talking on his phone right when the lights go down and the thing starts.

after awhile a guy behind him gets tired of it and asks him to stop. the guy on the phone basically said "fuck off" and then the guy behind LEAPS into the row and takes the guy's phone from him. Then they start fighting, in the aisle, food and drinks are going everywhere and women are screaming.

It took the staff about 5 minutes to take control of the place. it was crazy. everyone got their money back.

share yours below.

I once sat behind Patty, the Millionaire Matchmaker, while seeing No Strings Attached in Santa Monica. She was with her 2 friends, and laughed so insanely hard at every single joke (none of which were funny) - almost like she was putting a show on for the whole theater, like, we should know that she thinks this is funny. Stomping her feet on the ground, cackling, with her 2 copycat friends.

Oh, and that movie is also terrible.

Went to watch Ted with no expectations. Was pleasantly surprised, but the dude in front of us just had to explain or repeat every joke out loud while laughing obnoxiously.

Smh. Some people.

Half way through the movie, the power went out, and never came back on.  Had to come back another day and watch the entire first half over again to see the second half.

Was at a movie, and I looked down at my phone and noticed that Michigan had offered a f*cking 2 star athlete out of some school down south. I freaked out for a minute, but I Terkel down after I convinced myself it was probably a non-commutable offer and we were just trying to get some good pr.

About an hour later I went to get so jujy fruits, and checked again. Turns out that damn kid actually committed, and our coach accepted. Then I sharted all over the inside of my jorts and went home.

True story.

May be a fish tale, but I think one of lloyd's last recruits, or going away gifts, was some unknown two star, if that, from Nevada. I could be wrong. But that Nevada recruit is the equivalent of a bigfoot sighting in A2.....one, was he ever seen; two, when you saw him (or saw he committed), you shat yourself. Anyway, when does the season start? Women's WC ain't doing it

I've actually seen it thrice. The first time my friends and I were still trying to catch up to everything that happened the next day, lol. I'm going to have to buy a projector to watch it at home when it comes out for sale because it just won't be the same on a tv. Miller filmed the movie in black and white and they're including a copy on DVD. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v5s62tpM5fo

Same for me on the three times, I might go a couple more haha. Probably my favorite movie to see in a theater since Inception came out.

I hadn't seen any of the original ones, so went back and watched those. They're all pretty good with Road Warrior being the best IMO, but none are as crazy action-packed as Fury Road. Really looking forward to the next one.

You can really tell he's fresh off a hot streak directing Happy Feet 1 & 2, and Babe: Pig in the City, lol. I have no idea where this film came from. Beyond Thunderdome is one of my favorite movies for its visuals, acting, and plot devices, but even it's more of a kids movie. Glad to see him revisit the style he had when Byron Kennedy was still alive.

Saw the Phantom Menace at the early midnight release. The audience was roughly 300 loud roudy nerds who shouted through the whole thing, my seats were front row, end of aisle, so I got a stiff neck and could only see half the screen at a time, all this to witness the movie franchise that I loved the most as a child get violently raped by George Lucas. I still have nightmares about Jar Jar, cartoony CG, terrible acting, and predictable plots.

Summer in New York, we go to see the 12:01am Spider-Man 2 movie at 86th St. It was sold out and opening night. The AC breaks down about 15 minutes into the movie...by the time it ended, it was easily 105° in there. It was miserable.

so much anticipation, all of us stayed in town after college graduation so we could see it together before dispersing....so much cringe-worthy dialogue and horrible effects...so much disappointment.

I ate some bad seafood before my wife and I went to see Pulp Fiction. About ten minutes in I gave my wife that sweaty panic look. She somehow knew exactly what was wrong. I drove about 90 mph all the way up Telegraph and I don't think my ass touched my seat all the way home. I knew I wouldn't make it home so we had to stop at her parents on the way. I run through their front door and never said a word to them. I did go see the movie a couple weeks later. Great movie!

...i once walked into a movie and they wanted over $6 for a ticket, so i walked out and have only gone to about a dozen first run movies in the last 25 years

And every time i'm at the movies i end up wishing i was on a nice comfy couch, with a delicious intoxicating beverage, eating snacks i actually enjoy and most importantly my finger never more than a foot and a half from the pause button.

Wasn't there but I'm guessing that was the worst.

For me personally it would be going to see Requiem for a Dream. Now, I loved Pi and couldn't wait to see Aronofsky's new film. Furthermore, I had told my GF at the time how I think he is an up and coming director and how this movie is going to be great. Well, I think it's great! But the GF runs out of the theater crying and shit right towards the end. Now I'm stuck between doing the right thing (seeing if she is okay) and finishing the movie. Keep in mind it wasn't a subtle cry, it was like someone had murdered her cat.

at the emagine in royal oak. emagine is a nice theater--I like their comfy seats--but I hate their assigned seating policy. They don't really enforce it, and nobody really pays attention half the time, but when people come in late and the movie is crowded, they always expect their to be assigned seating.

well, at mad max, nobody was sitting in their assigned seat and it was packed. this guy comes in 20 minutes late, starts barking at the guy sitting in his seat in the aisle right above mine, and they had a heated argument for about 15 minutes.

Nothing terribly notable, but here's one of the few times I got a refund back from a theater: The 2nd Sherlock Holmes movie at Showcase (or whatever it calls itself) - With about 20 minutes left in the film, it cuts out. They get it back up and running and it cuts out again. It then took them 15 minutes to get it back on again, and when they did, it had been rewound to a scene about 30 minutes back. It was Xmas eve and we had dinner reservations to make so we said fuck it and left to get our money back and go. Past that, I did also see Snow White and the Huntsman in theaters. That was a pretty awful experience.

Terminator 4, 8pm on a Friday night showing.  A couple shows up with two under 10 year old children and sit on the end of the aisle we're sitting in.  We basically served as the other border of the area containing their playing children for 2 hours.  I should have charged them for babysitting.
