OT: World Series Open Thread

Submitted by RioThaN on

Well I know we're still sad about the Tigers not being in this series, but, it's a slow day and it's still the first game of the world series. They're in the bottom of the 1st and now the umps got themselves in trouble by calling Pedroia out in second and now calling it back, as it was clear it was safe... discuss?

They did the right thing to get the call right but I'd be livid as a St Louis fan because the umpires don't have the right to change the rules and change the call without replay. And just like that it's 3-0 Boston, poor Cardinals defense all around this inning.

In that case though the umpire at 2nd didn't call for help, they changed the call as John Farrel was walking off the diamond. I believe the rule is that they can only change the call if the umpire that makes the call asks for help. I could be wrong here but I think it's one of those stupid archaic rules that baseball has.

If this play is made a year later than there's obviously replay to change it but I don't think they can overturn a call like that.

That said they got the call right and I suppose that's all that should matter.

But Sparky Anderson was the first manager that I saw who would go up to each umpire to ask if they had a different view of a play in dispute (not related to balls/strikes).  Only once did I see where that worked.  The umpires still had to get together and discuss it before officially overruling the original call.

And ESPN in spanish have got Ozzie Guillen in the transmision, this man is absolutely weird, Wainwright giving up hits, the cards are in danger of losing the handle of this game.

Look at the shitty calls and how a fundamentally sound team like the cards imploded.Look at the Yankee-Sox series in 2004.Sox comeback from down 3-0.The Sox winning that year was what was good for the game.Im sure theirs more but Im freezing my ass off outside the ice rink in my car.

There haven't been shitty calls in this game, shit they overturned the bad call they made.

You can be bitter about Scherzer not getting the strike 3 but that's baseball, it's an imperfect game.

I wouldn't say it's fixed at all and I'm not sure I recall anything sketchy about the 2004 Yanks-Sox series, that was just an epic comeback/collapse depending on who you root for.

Ortiz test positive again when Miggy does.

Good to see a World Series thread. Wasn't sure if it was going to happen.

Good win by the Red Sox. It is a best of seven though.
