Meh, Pitt and PSU (at least now) are relatively closely ranked academically.  Remember, PSU is in bumfuck nowhere, so they lack the advantages of a city being within a 3 hour (seriously) drive.  Pitt's Med School and Med programs (I'd bet undergrad as well) are far superior, law school is equal, though PSU (main at least) has superior undergrad academics/ammenities/environment.

I would think UVa and VTech are comparable.  Though the athletics are somewhat switched on that point (at least recently for football, never basketball).

These surveys pop up every couple of months, and in almost all of them it comes out that America is full of ignorant savages.  And yet, the metrics and methodologies are always a bit more muddled than the article makes them out to be.

honestly, living in socal and saying i graduated from michigan means nothing to people. we have a great rep in the midwest, but i could tell people out here i went to minnesota and get the same response as michigan.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.  I worked with a couple of people from California, and they made some big deal about how one had gone to Cal and the other to UCLA, and our boss basically said he didn't care.  Colleges are pretty provincial in their reach, but I agree that east of Chicago at least everyone seems to treat UM as one of the "acceptable" midwest schools.

because there is no way in hades that schools like UW (washington) and the UCSD, UC-Davis, and UCSF schools should be anywhere near the top 50.  same with the illini.

My friend who played in the NFL for seven years, now a successful attorney, introduced me to his son, who had just graduated from Harvard and was going on to medical school.  Nice young man; actually played football for Harvard.

I smiled, shook his hand and said, "Well, if you couldn't get into Michigan, Harvard is a good fall back plan."

I am surprised Iowa and Indiana didn't make the cut over MSU and Rutgers. Both are pretty good schools. I know Iowa medical school is well regarded, and Indiana business school is a small notch below Ross. I think Michigan's ranking is appropriate, but I think there is an argument it could be higher on the list, considering where Berkeley is.

#11.

And in 1905 the Maroons proclaimed themselves "Champions of the West" (first pic) after edging out their Hated Rival, Michigan, for the Western Conference title (second pic).

Michigan at Chicago in 1905, the biggest game the West had seen to that point. 27,000 watched 11-0 Chicago give 12-1 Michigan their first loss in 5 years, and score the only points Michigan gave up in 1905, winning 2-0 on a late safety.

Umm...you're kidding, right?

Who needs constant electronic video stimulation when there's Ball in a Cup, Mexico's favorite toy for over 340 years! Toss the ball, catch it in the cup, dump it out of the cup, toss it, and catch it in the cup again. The ball is on a string and attached to the cup, so there's no worry if you don't catch the ball in the cup, and clean-up is as easy as catching a ball in a cup! So why spend another day not catching a ball in a cup when you could be catching a ball in a cup?
