OT: World Cup Final Open Thread

No real dog in this race, but I'll probably root for the underdog Dutch. There also seems to be a stronger contingent of Dutch fans on here, so be better fun here if you all are happy.

Getting a soft red is hardly unlucky when half or more of your team has been playing with deserved yellows for an entire half.

Was Spain the better team today? Probably not. Were they the best floppers today? You bet your ass. If you want to learn to get good at soccer just learn to flop. Without those flops it's 11-11 and it goes to pks.

France were already up 2-0 when he got sent off.  And playing at home.

Of course, none of that makes bouje's rant that "Holland got jobbed" any more sane though.  When you hit a guy with a flying cross-kick to the chest and you don't get kicked out of the game, then give up a clean goal from the run of play, you lose the right to complain that officiating cost you the game.

But you cannot lie that both of those last 2 fouls on holland were not penalties. It doesn't matter what team you root for but neither of those should have been called. And Torres cramping up at the end of the game Jesus someone get him a fucking tampon.

Then I would have like negative a million points and tons more mgoboard street cred.

Sorry about the slip-up.  I blame spending too much time on the Tartan Army Message Board during the World Cup where half the threads seem to be titled, "Who is a bigger blankety-blank?"  Guess I forgot to tone things down for my American audience.

Promise it won't happen again (assuming there aren't any Jeopardy-style thread topics about Steve McManaman in the future).

Sigh, I wish the style and pace of play from the second half had kept up in the overtime.  Things got chippy, floppy, and sloppy and the overall level of play went down significantly.

Also, are people really defending the flop that resulted in the second yellow?  Really?

for it.  Of course they are saying that if he hadn't flopped and no second yellow was given Spain still would have scored 11-11.

Spain was flopping and diving all fucking game long.  It's pathetic and not good for the game of soccer.

Just because Spain controlled possession doesn't mean that they were the better.  Honestly quality scoring chances were pretty even and neither team could put the ball in the back of the net.

iniesta definitely dived to exaggerate the foul but he had his man beat with a clear path on goal and heitinga reached out and grabbed his shoulder...it may be a soft yellow but 50-50 it does get called a yellow

just look at heitinga's reaction afterwards, he didn't even try pleading his case, he just turned around and walked off because he knew he committed the foul
