OT: World Cup Draw Thread

I know many people on here would like to discuss the draw, especially the U.S. position. Keep it here.

did the US no favors. Being grouped with Oceania eliminates some of the more favorable matchups and almost ensures a very tough draw. Add in the major injuries and it could be a rough Cup. At least the games wont be at 3:15 in the morning like Korea/Japan. Although, it was fun watching the opening game upset, drinking pints, early in the morning.

hoping for Germany. We have a strong record against them, when not playing in Europe. Even the loss in Korea was against the run of play. I would rathe play England in the later games, after injuries add up and Rooney gets suspended again. I worry about our backline against them.

I have no affiliation to either squad as a Canadian, but am a huge soccer fan in general. Anyone who thinks USA got a good draw by getting England needs their head examined. This world cup I see England getting to the Quarter finals easily and perhaps the semi's. There are a lot easier teams the USA could have drawn. England will win.....sorry. You do have agood chance to get out of the group though. I will be rooting for you!

I was worried about the other giants out there. England hasn't been as dominating lately (that I know of...obvs not fully up on my futbol news). What other teams do we match up with better? Curious because if we hopefully get out of the group we may meet up with those other guys.

Did not see them, so I plead ignorance. They are seeded 9th, though, so I was taking that on its face. Didn't know they looked dominant. I'm really just hoping we get out of the group stage in decent shape health-wise and give ourselves a chance. A draw with England would be a 'win' for us I think.

you just won't beat England to do it. Some of the other big guns I think you have a better chance against are: Germany (I don't see them being as strong as they have been in the past and for whatever reason, you guys always play them strong), the Netherlands seem to be in the midst of a down turn, Fance has been struggling lately as well....Basically, short of Brazil, Spain and Italy I think any team can be had at the present time. Those three seem to be in a league of their own though. Having followed Englands run more closely, I have abetter knowledge of their squad. I see them playing as good as any one right now. I think that of the teams below those top three, England is playing the best right now.

It is a good draw in the sense that some of our players will be very familiar with the English players and their style of play. I think we match up much better against them than a team like Brazil or the Netherlands. I do think England will easily win this group with 9 points and make a run to the semi-finals and maybe even win the entire thing. Fabio Capello is an asset that English squads of the past have not had at their disposal.

The draw committee did the US no favors by giving them England. I suspect any knowledgeable soccer fan would see quite the opposite. Any conception of that game going anything other than 2 - 0 England is nothing but pure homer talk. Fabio Capello runs a very good team that actually plays commensurate to the talent on the field(in a way that Sven Goran Eriksson did not)

Juggling his love of country vs. his lust for US marketing domination i can't wait to see his World Cup 2010 hair.....sitting next to Capello on the bench.
