OT - World Cup Championship: Germany v. Argentina, 2:00pm CDT, ABC/Univision

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa on

Here we go!!!  The most complete team versus the team with the best (arguably) player in the world.  Both teams play strong defense, and both have offensive firepower.  Edge in goalkeeping goes to Germany.

Despite the aforementioned firepower, I think this will be low-scoring, with Germany prevailing 1-0.

WTF, I was looking for the Sunday morning drinking thread.

I anticipate a great game, I don't think either side will hold back, nobody wants to fight out of an early 1-0 hole with these defenses. But I agree with the low score prediction.

I learned to be mindful of that about 20 years ago at an away Notre Dame game. We walked in an hour early (in our MI native minds), only to just barely catch kickoff. The tickets had the time in CST (at the time, IN did not observe daylight savings time). A Hoosier friend explained at the time that "time don't change".

After a fantastic group stage, the Tournament came back down to Earth with a typically cynical play in the knockout rounds. I don't see this game being filled with scoring, and it wouldn't be a bad bet that it goes to extra time, possibly even shoot out.

A little over a month before real soccer starts. (kinda /s)

Michigan brings in the #2 recruiting class in the nation this season. I cannot wait to see what this team is going to be, and this program in about 4 years from now. I predict another trip to the College Cup.

Live right now on ESPN, USA leads Canada 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd in the World Cup of Softball.

The only World Cup Finals that matter are ones that include the USA---Go 'Murica!!!

For lots of flopping... In all seriousness, really torn on who to root for in this match. Not having a dog in thefight really complicates my rooting interest. In American professional and collegiate sports, I at least have someone I would like to win or lose. Not so much today. Oh well, first world problems...

Anyone treating this like the Superbowl?

Had Doner with curryworst, washed down by a liter of Weihenstephaner Wessibier for lunch.

Now drinking Hopslam with ribs on the smoker for dinner

Does the Argentine anthem have no lyrics, like Spain's?   Surprised to see no one on the team singing (and the fans seemed to be just making the same "loo" sound over and over).

Mayble I'll just be satisfied with the outcome: best team wins or best player.  I fear, however, that it may be 0-0 with Argentina playing a limited counterattacking style.
