OT - World Cup Championship: Germany v. Argentina, 2:00pm CDT, ABC/Univision

Submitted by Wolverine In Iowa on

Here we go!!!  The most complete team versus the team with the best (arguably) player in the world.  Both teams play strong defense, and both have offensive firepower.  Edge in goalkeeping goes to Germany.

Despite the aforementioned firepower, I think this will be low-scoring, with Germany prevailing 1-0.

Germany has given up four goals in this tournament.  One (Brazil) was in total garbage time and another (Algeria) basically was as well (it came in the 120th minute when Algeria was down 2-0).  Only Ghana could score on them when it counted - and they did twice.  But they didn't get out of the group stage.

It's amazing how empty the streets are during WC games.  I saw a timelapse of a Sao Paolo street during a Brazil game and thought it was a still photo at first - no car drove by for several minutes.

I think the only sports event that could do that here is the Super Bowl, and even then I'm not sure.

It's not even close, and when Brazil plays Argentina anywhere it's like that in Brazil. I was there a few years back and you could ride a horse down the street in a city of 3 million. It's a wonderful environment and not a bunch of people trying to front as European. I hope the US gets a good group of players in some years.

Thank god we had something to watch beside boreball this summer.... I wish we had world cup every other year instead of every 4.

Argentina and Germany go into full-out attack mode for these last 15 minutes.

Decide this on the field of play, not by a shoot-out a few feet in front of the goalies!

What happens first? A Lions Super Bowl win or a US World Cup title? I'll hang up and listen.

That won't happen for 100 years. We only have a few of our kids that truly play soccer as the top sport. We were very lucky to have got out of the group.

with a Superbowl win...

Especially since the World Cup is only played once every four years....and it's for your country and not your professional team....

Understandable, especially for guys like Zaboleta and Mascherano who may not be on the national team in 2018

Goetze: just turned 22, very generously listed as 5' 8" and 138 pounds (did you see him next to Schweinsteiger, who is 6' 0"?). The biggest goal of his career at the beginning of his career.

Edit: he was next to Mertesacker, who is 6' 6", but still looked a foot shorter.
